Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Schmidt.
Hi Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m the mom of three big kids – young adults and married to my college sweetheart for 32 years. I have moved 13 times and at this stage of life – empty nesters (aka free birds) my life looks very different than years ago.
I’m the author of the best-seller, Cannonball! Fearlessly Facing Midlife and Beyond, the host of the award winning podcast, Fearlessly Facing Fifty and beyond, a media contributor around the globe on confidence, reinvention, parenting young adults and the power of sharing your story. I launched the Fearlessly Facing Fifty brand the year before turning 50 because I knew the stories and wisdom women have, needs to be shared and woven together to inspire each other.
You may have seen me on a variety of lifestyle shows across the country, listened to my podcast or watched my live show, and those opportunities have been incredible, however what I love doing most is share my stories and stories of other incredible humans to inspire you to take action in your life – professionally or personally and step into your best, confident self.
I love to share practical tools for you to apply to your life so you can feel inspired and encouraged and be able to cannonball into your next thing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Launching a brand and business at 50 – came with a lot of obstacles. I’m completely self-funded – every pitch for interviews – no PR agency – all me. Here’s the thing – fear can stop you in your tracks and can completely sideline you from greatness – the key is using that fear as fuel to keep moving forward. Progress over perfection. And let’s be honest – there is no perfect time to start anything. The belief in your mission and you WHY should make you cry – if those things are aligned – go for it. And my single most best advice to anyone at any age is to acknowledge that everyone is a work in progress. There is no linear path to success – there are multiple rest stops along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a woman who has reinvented, evolved and mastered the art of ‘being the new kid’ I know that life creates challenges, and phases of parenting shift. At times we question how we are needed.
There are many times I have felt uncertain of what was next. When I launched fearlessly facing fifty – I had no idea how to do a podcast – I had no idea how to write a book – but I knew that my message and mission would serve and empower others. That was my fuel. I specialize in helping women identify their best confident selves after fifty. A time in life where so many things shift and transitions are endless. I’m most proud of the women I’ve connected with that have stepped into their value and realized that what they’ve accomplished as wives, moms, sisters, daughters, friend, is all part of their story – and when they begin to share their stories their confident soars – and that makes my heart swell with pride.
The work we do as women – tending to people, things, seasons and moments, is purposeful and good work that at times gets overlooked.
It is our time to age fearlessly and connect confidently by learning from each other – sharing our stories and experiences and not undervaluing all that we have accomplished along this journey.
Together we will inspire each other – we will share our triumphs, our successes, and our challenges. We’ve got this – it’s our time to be bold and step into our power of creating a life of joy and connection.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a high school senior I was voted knows everyone and everything – and I have always been a connector – a great listener and encourager – those gifts have been a part of my journey from little on – and have served me with my success of my brand and business – authenticity is key.
