Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Croft.
Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For as long as I can remember, well-curated design has always been a passion of mine. Growing up, my parents often described my thought process as “if given option A, B or C, she will always choose F”, which is an accurate representation of just how much I like to push the envelope. I started painting furniture in 2013 to help pay my college tuition (as well as furnish my first apartment), but to my surprise, what started as changing the color of a piece of yard sale furniture turned into a deep love of preserving history, as well as restoring sentimental heirlooms passed down from one generation to the next. I started Croft Creative as a way to share my love for furniture restoration and refinishing with others in the industry, but it has transformed into so much more than I could have ever imagined.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is said that the best things in life are free, but the goal is to prove that skill, dedication, and a bit of creativity are also invaluable. I believe that many trades in the design industry are slowly fading away, so for the last decade I’ve made it a personal goal to not only refine my skills as a furniture refinisher/restorer, but to immerse myself into the world of wallpaper and upholstery as well. While working in multiple trades as a mother of two can seriously impact my social calendar (as well as my storage space), I wouldn’t change a thing. Knowing that I can provide a “one-stop-shop” for my clients makes all of the late nights worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While Croft Creative is mostly known for furniture restoration and refinishing, I’ve also gained experience with Venetian plaster, fine finishes, wallpaper installation, custom upholstery and even furniture construction. I’ve yet to find a way to fit all of that on a business card.
What does success mean to you?
To me, the term “success” feels like the end of a story. I’m not sure I will ever know exactly what being “successful” is, because there will always be room for growth and improvement. For now, let’s say that success is a client being so happy with my work that they can’t wait to tell all of their friends 😉
