Hidden Gems: Meet Vanessa Vivas Lovera of SISU Beauty Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Vivas Lovera.

Hi Vanessa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Venezuela, and ever since I was a child, I was an excellent student who loved learning. I first studied journalism, but later switched to dentistry, where I discovered my true passion for medicine and aesthetics. I fell in love with the idea of helping people look and feel their best, not only through physical transformation but by boosting their confidence.

In 2018, I had to leave my country for political reasons and came to the United States by myself, without family and without knowing English. I was later granted political asylum, then permanent residency, and now I’m proud to be a U.S. citizen. My first years here were difficult, I worked as a waitress, bartender, Uber driver, and in other jobs while studying English in college. I moved through different cities, learning and growing with every experience.

In 2020, while living in Chicago during the pandemic, I met my husband, who is also from Venezuela and serves in the U.S. military. When he was stationed in Alaska, I moved with him and decided to start over once again. I studied to become a CNA in Anchorage, and while working as one, I began nursing school. It was a challenging journey, but with hard work and my husband’s support, I achieved my goal.

After becoming a nurse, I knew I wanted to do to aesthetics. Dentistry was no longer the path for me, but I still wanted to combine my medical background and artistic side. With a lot of effort and dedication, I opened a small medical spa, SISU Beauty Clinic. Starting the business was not easy; beyond the financial investment, I had to navigate complex healthcare regulations and laws. But it was worth every challenge. Within the first year, my work began to be recognized with awards such as Best Botox of Liberty 2024, Best Botox of Liberty 2025, Best Nurse of Liberty 2025, and Best of Georgia Regional 2024. We’re also honored to be nominated again for Best of Georgia 2025.

After only a year and a half of opening my small location, I was able to expand to a larger space and build an incredible team: Miranda Fincher, NP-C; Ashlie Ortiz, RN; Melanie Igartua, RN-BSN; and Brenda Vazquez, MA. They are truly amazing, and I feel blessed every day to work alongside them. I also started my MSN-FNP program in Keiser University to advance my career. Looking back, all the years of struggle, sacrifice, and hard work were worth it. Today, I’m proud not only of how far I’ve come but also of the chance to help others feel confident, empowered, and beautiful in their own skin.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into who I am today. Moving to a new country alone, without speaking English or having family here, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I had to start from zero, working so many different jobs just to make ends meet while I went to school to learn English. There were moments when I felt completely lost, but giving up was never an option.

When I decided to pursue nursing, it was another uphill battle. I had to study while working, and there were days I would wake up at 2:00 a.m. to do an Amazon Flex block at 3:00 a.m., then rush to get ready for school and attend my labs and clinicals. It was exhausting, especially while learning a completely new healthcare system and culture. Later, opening a medical spa brought its own set of challenges, understanding state laws, medical regulations, and earning trust as a new aesthetic injector in the community. Another obstacle I faced was not being welcomed by some competitors in the area, which made it even harder to establish my business at the beginning. Still, I stayed focused on my patients and the quality of my work. There were moments when I felt completely overwhelmed trying to manage everything on my own, but my passion for what I do and my patients kept me moving forward.

Looking back, I’m grateful for every obstacle because it made the success even more meaningful. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and faith in myself. Every struggle turned into motivation to keep growing, not just as a professional, but as a woman who built something from nothing in a new country.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SISU Beauty Clinic?
SISU Beauty Clinic is more than just a medical spa, it’s a space built on authenticity, care, and connection. Our mission is to help people look and feel their best through safe, natural, and personalized treatments. We specialize in aesthetic injectables, skin rejuvenation, and laser treatments, focusing on enhancing each person’s natural features rather than changing them.

Something that truly makes us different is how personal the experience is. We connect deeply with every patient and take the time to understand their goals, concerns, and lifestyle. Because we are bilingual, we are able to serve both English and Spanish-speaking patients, which has helped create a welcoming environment for a very diverse community. Many of our patients tell us they feel comfortable because they finally have someone who understands them, not only their aesthetic goals but also their culture and values.

Brand-wise, what makes me most proud is the reputation we’ve built for honesty and integrity. People know that at SISU, they will receive transparent advice, safe treatments, and results that celebrate their individuality. The name “SISU” represents strength, resilience, and courage, qualities that reflect both our journey as a brand and the confidence we want our patients to feel.

What I want readers to know is that at SISU Beauty Clinic, we don’t just focus on appearance only, we focus on confidence, education, and care. Every patient who walks through our doors is treated like family, and our goal is for them to leave not only looking radiant, but feeling empowered.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really believe in good or bad luck. I think everything in life happens according to God’s plan. The only thing I would ever consider “good luck” was being granted political asylum when I first came to the United States, that changed my entire life, and I’ll always be grateful for it. But I truly believe that when you work hard, stay kind, and do your best to do things the right way, God opens doors for you. Every challenge I’ve faced has had a purpose, even when it didn’t make sense at the time. I see it more as divine timing than luck, because everything I have now is the result of faith, effort, and the blessings that come with doing good.
