Hi John, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My real estate journey.
I started my real estate journey in 1985, living in Washington, D.C. I was selling general brokerage real estate and met several people who were selling real estate in a planned gated community in Williamsburg, Virginia. I was offered a job in Williamsburg, and we moved down there to work at a place called Ford’s Colony, selling lots and homes to pre-retirees. As it turned out, the people that I worked for were unscrupulous and dishonest, and I decided to move to Hilton Head in 1988.
Once I moved to Hilton Head, I was the broker in charge of Hilton Head Plantation in 1988 and 1989. One thing led to another and I was offered a job selling upscale homes and lots in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I decided to take the job because of the financial rewards,
As it turned out once again, the developer of the property in Chapel Hill was also dishonest and unscrupulous. I was forced to move to Florida where I lived for 20 years in various places selling luxury real estate.
In the great crash of 2008, we lived in the epicenter of the entire problem, the state of Florida. After everything collapsed, while I was working in the Caribbean, selling homes in Ritz-Carlton communities, I literally could not find a job anywhere.
I ended up with various odd jobs for about two years until the market recovered. We ended up in West Virginia at the great resort called the Greenbrier, where I sold luxury properties. In 2016, we decided to move back to Hilton Head because it was the best place we had ever lived, and we had lived in some beautiful places.
Once I moved down here, I discovered I did not know a soul other than several real estate agents who I had worked with in 1988. After several months, it was very clear that I was not going to make it as a real estate broker in this area, so I decided to start a YouTube channel out of pure desperation. As it turned out, I was the trendsetter in YouTube, and as we stand today, I have over 7,000 subscribers and over 1.4 million views. It has been a tremendous success.
I have created a real estate team that has been voted the best team in the low country of all the teams for three consecutive years, 2023, 2020. 2024-2025. It has been my pleasure to develop a real estate team, to rise from the ashes of complete despair in a real estate crash, move to Hilton Head with no clients, start a YouTube channel from pure nothing, and create success.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Selling real estate for developers in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida has been the highest highs and the lowest lows. I was fired a total of eight times over the years. The real estate crash in 2028 just leveled us as a family. In 2009 my 19 year son died from gun violence. Literally, we went through Hell.
The climb back was unbelievably difficult. I didn’t have a job, couldn’t find a job and we lost our son!
I was running out of money in the final move back to Hilton Head so I started the YouTube Channel. I did not want to be on camera, but, when there are no options, you move forward.

Because of the success of YouTube in 2017 I hired several real estate agents and formed my team. We have had great success and we have been voted the best real estate team in the Lowcountry in 2023, 2024, 2025! We owe a lot of it to YouTube and great agents we put together.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
You need to have dreams, discipline, work hard and be creative. The discipline to get every day and fight for you survival and success cannot be over looked.
