Community Highlights: Meet Beth Fleming of Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Fleming.

Hi Beth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I look back, I can see that my journey into pediatric therapy started long before I ever earned my degree or opened a clinic. I’ve always been drawn to children who needed a little extra support to be understood, to move, to connect, or to find their voice. Early in my career, I worked as an ABA therapist in homes and schools, and that experience opened my eyes to the world of children with developmental differences. I saw firsthand how much potential every child carries—and how powerful it can be when a family finds the right support team around them.

After becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist in 2009, I knew I wanted to create a place where families could find that support under one roof. A place that didn’t feel clinical or intimidating, but instead felt warm, playful, and hopeful. That vision came to life in 2011 when I co-founded Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy in Pooler. From the very beginning, my goal was simple: to help children reach their fullest potential through compassionate, high-quality care and genuine relationships with families.

What started as a small speech therapy clinic soon grew into something much more. We added occupational, physical, and feeding therapy so that our team could serve the whole child—not just one part of their development. Every addition came from listening to what families needed most. Over time, we expanded to two locations, in Pooler and Richmond Hill, and built a team of therapists who share the same heart for helping children thrive.

Like any small business, our journey has had challenges. The pandemic was one of them. When in-person therapy suddenly became uncertain, we had to adapt quickly to make sure children didn’t lose progress. Through community support and a grant, we were able to continue services virtually and keep both our families and therapists connected. That season reminded me that flexibility, creativity, and teamwork are what truly define Chatterbox.

Today, my husband Tim and I lead the clinic together—he oversees the financial side while I focus on clinical care and the overall mission. It’s become a true family business, one that reflects our shared values of compassion, integrity, and service. Together with our incredible team, we’ve created something that feels less like a clinic and more like a community.

What continues to drive me after all these years are the small, everyday victories: the first word a parent hears after months of therapy, the first time a child takes an unassisted step, the smile that follows a moment of connection. Those moments are why we do what we do. They remind me that progress comes in all shapes and sizes—and that behind every milestone is a team and a family who never stopped believing.

As Chatterbox continues to grow, our focus remains the same: to empower children and families to live their best lives. We are constantly exploring new ways to serve our community—through innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to the children who inspire us every day.

For me, this isn’t just a business. It’s a calling—and I’m grateful for every family who has trusted us to be part of their child’s story.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any small business, our story hasn’t been without challenges. In fact, the road has had more than a few bumps. The pandemic brought uncertainty to every therapy practice, and like so many others, we had to adapt quickly to continue serving families safely. With creativity, teamwork, and community support, we transitioned to virtual therapy where possible and kept our children progressing through that difficult time.

Then came a series of building challenges that truly tested our resilience. For nearly two years, our Richmond Hill clinic endured an ongoing roof leak that made operations increasingly difficult. Despite countless repairs and attempts to work with our landlord, the situation never fully resolved. By late 2024, we made the difficult decision to close that location and consolidate all services back under one roof in Pooler. It was a heartbreaking choice and a significant financial setback for our small, family-owned business—but it was the right decision to protect our team and the quality of care we provide. Our plan is to return to the Richmond Hill area in 2026, stronger and more stable than before.

Just when we thought we had faced our fair share of building issues, this past summer brought another curveball—a hot water heater burst in the ceiling, flooding over 3,600 square feet of our 7,000 square-foot clinic. It could have been devastating, but our incredible team immediately jumped into action. With everyone pitching in—from therapists to admin staff—we cleaned, dried, and reorganized so efficiently that we only had to close for a single day. By the next morning, we were back to serving our patients.

Aside from those physical challenges, we continue to face the same pressures that many medical practices do: increasing administrative burdens and decreasing reimbursement rates from insurance companies. Through it all, we’ve stood firm in our commitment to doing things the right way. We refuse to compromise our values or participate in unethical or illegal practices to boost profits. The right way isn’t always the easiest way, but I can always sleep well at night knowing that we stay true to our mission and integrity.

As Chatterbox continues to grow, our focus remains the same: to empower children and families to live their best lives through compassion, teamwork, and unwavering ethical care. For me, this isn’t just a business—it’s a calling, and I’m grateful for every family who has trusted us to be part of their child’s story.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy?
At Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy, we help children reach their fullest potential through compassionate, evidence-based therapy and genuine family collaboration. We specialize in speech, occupational, and physical therapy for children from birth through young adulthood, with additional programs for feeding, sensory integration, music classes for all abilities, and cranial remolding helmets.

I’m most proud of the culture we’ve built within our team and our community. Chatterbox isn’t just a therapy clinic—it’s a place where families feel supported, where therapists love what they do, and where children are celebrated for every step forward, big or small. Seeing a child say their first word, take their first step, or feed themselves for the first time will never stop being the most rewarding part of what we do.

What truly defines our work is how we approach it. Every child who walks through our doors is seen as a whole person—not just a diagnosis or a set of goals. We look at communication, motor skills, play, behavior, and family dynamics together, because they’re all connected. Our therapists work side by side, often collaborating across disciplines to create fun, individualized treatment plans that meet each child right where they are.

What sets us apart is our commitment to doing things the right way—ethically, compassionately, and wholeheartedly. In a healthcare world that’s often driven by numbers, we’ve chosen to stay people-centered. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t compromise our values for profit. We prioritize relationships, long-term outcomes, and integrity above all else.

We’re also known for our collaborative spirit—both within our team and with the community. We partner with physicians and local organizations to make sure children get the wrap-around support they need. Our goal is always the same: to help every child we serve live their best life, and to make a lasting difference in the families we touch along the way.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways people can work with, collaborate with, or support us at Chatterbox Pediatric Therapy. Families can connect with us directly for therapy services for their children—whether speech, occupational, physical or feeding therapy. For professionals and community partners, we welcome collaboration with schools, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers.

Our goal is always to create wrap-around support for children, so we love connecting with organizations and providers who share our mission. This can take the form of referral partnerships, co-hosting workshops, providing educational resources, or joint community events.

Community members can support us by spreading the word about our services, attending or sponsoring events, or volunteering when opportunities arise. We also welcome connections with local businesses and organizations that want to partner on programs or initiatives for children with developmental differences, helping us reach more families in meaningful ways.

Ultimately, the best way people can support us is by sharing in our mission: empowering children to reach their full potential, supporting families, and prioritizing integrity and compassion in every interaction. Whether through direct care, professional collaboration, or community involvement, every partnership helps us make a bigger difference in the lives of the children we serve.
