Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendan Dochney.
Hi Brendan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are both licensed counselors and met while working at a local hospital. While that was a very rewarding and fulfilling experience, as we got to know one another better we’d always discussed starting our own practice one day and happened to get married along the way. After a few years of marriage we decided we were ready to take a risk and open our own small private practice.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Dochney Counseling opened in February of 2020, then a month later COVID hit and we had our first challenge to navigate. Like any business we have had our challenges, but have been successful in overcoming them by leaning into each other and working together.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Dochney Counseling is a local counseling practice off of Forsyth Park. We provide mental health therapy services to a variety of populations utilizing a variety of techniques and modalities. We’re a small (2 therapists) family run practice that takes a lot of pride in supporting our community through the work we do. We also have our office friend, Meadow, who’s our Australian shepherd that loves coming to the office and see our clients!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The world of mental health care is an ever changing landscape, and at a very rapid pace. Post COVID, telehealth (virtual) options have made therapy services much more accessible to those who previously may not have had access. AI has entered the behavioral health world and is quickly being integrated into care in some areas. Increases in social media use has, and will continue to correlate with increased depression, anxiety, and self worth issues. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, the direction health insurance companies (plan options, costs) go also dictates much in the behavioral health field.
