Exploring Life & Business with Laura Taylor of Pura Coastal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Taylor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Pura Coastal less than a year ago with a simple vision, to create something joyful, meaningful, and connected to the laid-back beauty of the Lowcountry. I wanted to offer women an opportunity to come together, have fun, and shop coastal-inspired apparel and accessories that reflect the easy, breezy lifestyle we’re so lucky to enjoy here.

What began as a few small pop-ups quickly grew into something bigger. I loved bringing the clothing directly to women, watching them light up when they found something that made them feel beautiful and confident. That’s always been my goal — to create pieces that make women feel good about themselves, inside and out.

My daughter has been my greatest supporter and partner in this journey. She’s been by my side at most venues, helping with everything from setting up displays to connecting with our customers. Sharing this experience with her has made it even more special.

Living near the coast has always inspired me — the sunshine, the palm trees, and that feeling like you’re always just a little bit on vacation. I wanted to capture that energy through clothing that feels effortless, cheerful, and comfortable — styles that make you feel like you’re by the beach, even when you’re not.

From the beginning, it was also important to me to give back. A portion of our proceeds is donated to local animal shelters — a cause very close to my heart.

Pura Coastal has grown into more than a brand; it’s become a reflection of the coastal spirit — relaxed, uplifting, and full of good vibes. My hope is that every woman who wears our pieces feels a little sunshine and a reminder to enjoy life’s simple, beautiful moments.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s true for most new businesses. In the beginning, the hardest part was just getting started — figuring out where to set up my first pop-ups, meeting people, and getting the word out about Pura Coastal. It took time to build momentum and let people know who we are and what we’re about.

Another big challenge has been the online side of things. Since I also have a website www.puracoastal.com, learning how to market online, grow social media, and reach customers beyond local events has been a process. It’s all been trial and error — finding what styles sell best, which pieces people love, and how to connect with my audience in a genuine way.

There have definitely been moments where it felt like a lot, especially investing in new styles and hoping they’d do well, but it’s all part of growing. Each event, each customer, and even the slow days have taught me something. Every step, even the tough ones, has made Pura Coastal stronger and more connected to the women who inspire it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Pura Coastal. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pura Coastal is a boutique brand inspired by the relaxed, sun-soaked lifestyle of the Lowcountry. We specialize in women’s resort wear and accessories that capture that effortless “coastal-chic” vibe — clothing that’s easy, comfortable, and beautiful, whether you’re by the water, running errands, or out for dinner. Every piece is meant to make you feel confident, comfortable, and a little like you’re on vacation, even when you’re not.

What sets Pura Coastal apart is the feeling behind it. It’s more than just fashion — it’s about embracing a lifestyle that’s joyful, laid-back, and full of good energy. Our pop-up events have become something special in the community — a chance for women to gather, shop, laugh, and connect. I love watching women try on a piece and instantly light up — that moment when they feel good about themselves is what inspires everything I do.

I’m also proud that Pura Coastal gives back. From the start, we’ve donated a portion of proceeds from our shows to support local animal rescues and shelters such as Friends for Paws Rescue and Rehome. It’s a cause that means a lot to me personally, and being able to give back through my business has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the connection we’ve built — with customers who’ve become friends, with the community that’s supported us, and with the feeling people get when they see or wear something from Pura Coastal. My goal is for every woman to feel like she’s part of something uplifting and positive — a brand that celebrates confidence, kindness, and the coastal spirit that makes this area so special.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is that I actually work full-time as a Learning Facilitator for a global travel company while running Pura Coastal. So, my days are spent training and mentoring others, and then I shift gears into my business — planning pop-ups, connecting with customers, and working on new ideas for the brand. It keeps me busy, but I truly love both. They balance each other out — my career helps me stay organized and grounded, and Pura Coastal gives me that creative outlet I’ve always needed.

Another thing people might not know is that I’ve completely changed my lifestyle over the past few years. I’ve become very focused on health, wellness, and just living more intentionally. That shift has carried over into how I run my business too — I try to bring that same positive, balanced energy into everything I do. I think that’s part of what gives Pura Coastal its feel-good, sunny spirit.
