Inspiring Conversations with Steven Baumann of Southern Trailer Supply Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Baumann.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Southern Trailers Supply Company started as a side business for me. I needed a way to make extra income to pay down student loan debt. My father, who is now retired, ran a successful business selling trailers, so this was something I was familiar with. In December 2024, I parted ways with my corporate job and decided to take Southern Trailers full time. Though owning my own business has had its challenges, as a Marine Corps veteran, I apply the discipline that I developed in the USMC to help me overcome obstacles as a business owner. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories, and helping them further their own businesses with a trailer designed for them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Running my own business has been a learning experience. One thing that I have struggled with is maintaining a healthy work / life balance. I tend to throw myself into my work, and ensuring my customers are happy is very important to me. However, I have a wife and three kids, and it’s also important to me to make sure I am setting aside time for my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of Southern Trailer Supply Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Southern Trailer Supply Company is a trailer dealership that specializes in custom-built trailers. Customers come to us with requests for unique trailer builds, and we work together with the customer to design and build a trailer specific to their needs. We have built a wide range of trailers, from dog grooming trailers to a mobile cold plunge trailer. We also carry a limited selection of stock trailers on our lot in Springfield, GA. We take pride in going the extra mile, and are dedicated to providing an outstanding experience for our customers purchasing a trailer.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Customer satisfaction is highly important to me. I want to provide our customers with the best trailer-buying experience, from the initial phone call to the trailer delivery. Communication, quality materials, and skilled manufacturers are all important and contribute to the customer experience. At the end of the day, I want our customers to love their new trailer.
