Community Highlights: Meet Fletcher Corbin of TCSA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fletcher Corbin.

Hi Fletcher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
TCSA was started in 2004 when my oldest son, who is now 31 years of age decided he liked soccer best. Little did I know at the time how big club soccer was and now approximately 22 years later we have grown into a club that encompasses both Coffee and Toombs County as well as led to the creation of other clubs in Dublin, Reidsville, Fitzgerald and Statesboro. We are not only directly supporting the growth of the sport and the life lessons sports teach, teamwork, accountability, commitment, etc., but also permeating interest in other communities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road for our organization has not always been smooth. When we began our community knew of the sport of soccer, but did not understand how to cultivate players to play at higher levels. When we began we did not have a field to play on we just used level pieces of earth to practice and the local high school band director/soccer coach, Tim Quigley assisted in us using the football practice field to play our home matches. We have been through several fields throughout the year and have ultimately ended up with fields in a highly visible location, 100 Semco Drive, Vidalia, GA, thanks to the generosity of Paul Thigpen of Paul Thigpen Automotive Group.

We’ve been impressed with TCSA, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TCSA is a soccer club who’s mission is to promote the sport of soccer in and around our surrounding area. TCSA offers opportunities for all ages to grow through the sport from age 4 through adult. What sets us apart other than the high level of expertise of our coaches and volunteers, is that we offer the opportunity for our area youth to participate for an approximate 90% discounted rate from other clubs.

Our accomplishments are that most of our players go on to some form of post secondary education, to college or university, technical school or the United States Military. This is our biggest accomplishment as we are in the business of developing good people through sport.
Over the past 22 years we have won several trophies through league play, tournaments and have won President’s Cup in 2017 and taken teams to Regional competitions outside of our geographic area.

The services we offer first and foremost is development. We have approximately 150 players who have earned soccer scholarships so they could not only continue their career in the sport, but received significant scholarships to assist with their educational expenses. We are proud that we have one professional player, Draven Scott, who plays for Ore Verde in the second division in Honduras.
We offer services from age 4 through adult for boys and girls. We offer a Free Academy program so we can work on the technical development as well as teach a love for the sport in a positive fun environment. We offer a competitive program so our players can have opportunities to reach their highest level in the sport where striving to be your best is emphasized as well as players continuing to some post secondary education.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Our quality that is most important to our success is that the focus is on the holistic individual, not on the wins and losses ratio that is the focus of other environments.
