Exploring Life & Business with Lanesha Nesbit of LMN Billing, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanesha Nesbit.

Hi Lanesha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into medical billing began in 2010 while I was working at the front desk of an outpatient mental health facility. I was quickly thrown into the billing department with only a couple of weeks of training. Through trial and error, I learned from my mistakes and ultimately mastered the billing process, building a strong foundation that shaped my career.

With over 15 years of experience, I am now the owner of LMN Billing, LLC. Through my business, I support healthcare providers by managing their billing processes and also offer hands on training for individuals who want to start their own careers in medical billing. My mission is to help practices grow and thrive while relieving busy practice owners and clinicians of administrative burdens; allowing them to focus on what matters most: providing quality care to their patients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning, I had to learn everything quickly and often on my own, which came with plenty of challenges. Being thrown into the billing department with limited training meant I made mistakes along the way, but each one became a lesson that helped me grow and improve.

As a medical billing specialist, I also carry a significant level of responsibility—my therapists’ livelihood is in my hands, as this is their primary source of income. I had to ensure that claims were submitted accurately, processed correctly and followed up on promptly if there were any rejections or denials. It was my responsibility to make sure providers were fully reimbursed and generating revenue, and if they weren’t, it was on me to explain why and find solutions.

There were moments of uncertainty and trial and error as I worked to understand the complexities of medical billing, insurance requirements and the ever-changing healthcare landscape. Building confidence in my skills and transitioning from employee to business owner also came with its own set of obstacles. When you become a business owner, you have to grow gradually, consistently market and advertise your services and stand out in a highly competitive industry. The transition was especially challenging because, as an employee, the work is already there—you’re guaranteed a steady 40-hour paycheck and benefits. As a business owner, however, you are responsible for generating your own income, securing your own benefits, and building and maintaining your own client base.

However, with a lot of prayer, those struggles shaped my expertise, strengthened my resilience, and ultimately prepared me to run a boutique, successful medical billing business and help others navigate the same journey.

We’ve been impressed with LMN Billing, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I also provide credentialing services, staff training and insurance benefit verification to help practices operate more efficiently from the front end to the back end. I maintain strict HIPAA compliance to ensure all patient information is handled securely and professionally.

I want readers to know that when they work with me, they’re not just hiring a billing company—they’re gaining a dedicated partner who truly cares about their success.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say luck has played a small role in my journey, but preparation, persistence and faith have played a much bigger one. I do not believe in bad luc “only good luck” and I believe that blessings come from God. My pastors and family has also prayed over my business and I believe that the favor I’ve experienced comes from God’s guidance and covering over my life and work.

I’ve had moments that some may call “good luck,” such as being given opportunities early in my career that allowed me to step into medical billing with little experience. However, I believe those opportunities only turned into success because I was willing to learn quickly, take responsibility and push through the learning curve.

As a business owner, I’ve learned and still learning that success is less about luck and more about consistency, integrity and showing up every day for your clients. I’ve prayed through the difficult seasons, stayed committed during the slow seasons and continued to grow even when things were uncertain. Looking back, I see that what may have seemed like luck was really preparation meeting opportunity and the rest was hard work, faith, and God’s favor.

Being a business owner has also allowed me to be a caregiver for my beloved late mother, create opportunity and income for others and spend more time with my family. These are some of the greatest rewards of my journey; far beyond financial success.
