Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Mathews.
Hi Kelley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started as a young mom that just wanted beautiful photos without paying an arm and a leg for and what better way than to do it yourself.
I started practicing around town and then I became passionate about traveling and finding appreciation in everyday objects and exquisite scenery.
Beautiful destinations, and finding the beauty in the mundane and forgotten, all
While filling my home as well as friends and family’s homes with beautiful photography of the south and some other places we roam as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With growing children and schedules that are ever-changing.
It’s become more about capturing moments when I can. With a family, it is harder to travel with all of our schedules, but so very rewarding when we do go and venture out and find new places and navigate around in them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a stay-at-home mom of three vivacious boys.
I love seeing and teaching them to appreciate the world around us, just as it is. I love taking in scenery around us and found objects, Whether we are hanging in our backyard, enjoying the simplicity of God’s creations or we are on an adventure to a new town or city and appreciating its history and sights.
I strive to teach my boys to notice the small details and soak in the environment around them. We are blessed enough to be able to go and explore so I love sharing that with everyone. I have always told them that anywhere you are there is beauty and a lesson, either seeing a new animal, flower, statue or immersing yourself in the history and culture of a place.
Take appreciation in the moment, I love being able to share places with those who may not get to experience it for themselves. I also love to spread kind words, there’s so much negativity in this world and if I can turn one person’s day around it is completely worth it.
I hope that when someone views my photography they not only appreciate it but it makes them slow down and take notice of what is around them and have gratitude for the small things in their own lives and bring a new appreciation to the intimate details of everyday life.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
During Covid, it really taught my family and myself that you don’t have to go anywhere extravagant to capture and explore places.
We found a hiking path near our home that we would spend our evenings walking while everything was shut down and some of my favorite photos have come from that little path, the sunsets where we would reflect on what was going on in the world around us or the critters that we would observe and then learn about when we looked them up.
When the world shut down around us we found an escape that taught us more than we ever thought it could, basically in our own backyard.
