Community Highlights: Meet Brianna Dixon of Marketing with Dixon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Dixon.

Hi Brianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started as a teen that just loved everything about Art. I tried every form of art you can think of – fashion design, photography, interior design, writing with illustrations, poetry till I return to my first love of visual arts. I started with grayscale portraits or pictures of random things. Until I fell in love with the freedom of abstract art.

As the years went by, I made a little family of my own, two lovely boys. With me being a mom now, painting and drawing seem to be a hobby of the past. I later got into digital art by doing logos for friends and family, just wanting to mix my first love with the ways of the future. With creating logos, I became very intrigued with helping my friends and family with creative ways to get their brand, my art, to the world. These business ideas came so naturally. That’s when it hit me. I had found a way to mix my creativity with business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My choice of career did not become my reality overnight. This was over 5 years of trying to understand what to do with my natural talent. When I first started drawing, I was in 1st grade. I was just drawing for fun. My friends all wanted me to draw something for them because of how good I was. Then, I went through my creative exploration with art throughout my teens. Now, I’m in my 20s with a little family of my own in a huge creative block. I needed a way to turn my passion into money so I wouldn’t have to work dead-end jobs to always provide for my family. Before I got to the career choice of Marketing, I tried being a nail tech and a lash tech. In the end, it felt forced and like a get-rich-quick scheme. Stepping outside of my natural passion is where I always found myself struggling.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Marketing with Dixon?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories are the ones that fueled my creativity. My mother was my biggest supporter when it came to my interest in art. One Christmas, I had this super big box by the tree with my name on it. I had grown out of the toy phase by then and just wanted some cute clothes and shoes so I could look cute with all my friends. Lord yes I know, but it’s nothing like when the whole crew looks good. So, I’m looking at the box like this is not clothes or shoes. It’s about tall as a mannequin. I open it and it’s an ENTIRE art kit. Every visual artist dreams!!!! I had grade pencils, colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, oils, soft charcoal, hard charcoal, red charcoals, an easel, brushes, canvases, and a case big enough to fit all of it in. I was in artist heaven !!! I didn’t care about any gifts after opening that one. I didn’t care about looking cute with my friends anymore. I just wanted to create everything I could with every new piece of equipment I had.
