Daily Inspiration: Meet Anthony Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Lewis.

Hi Anthony, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I began tattooing in McComb Mississippi 21 years ago under Michael Kennedy who owned Tattoos Unlimited at the time. Completed my apprenticeship the old school way and remained there for a couple of years. I then headed to Baton Rouge and worked on L.S.U. campus for a short bit.

After that, I worked up all along the southeastern U.S. and landed a spot in Hinesville Georgia where I have been for the past 7 years. I currently work at a private studio, Luna Tattoo in Ludowici Georgia. I plan on opening a studio soon with my sister who also tattoos and runs a family-owned small business. I have 4 wonderful children and the majority of them love art and will probably follow in their parent’s footsteps as artists.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely hasn’t been smooth. Starting out as a tattoo artist is not always easy and took years to get established to the point where bills were paid on time. It can take years to build a steady clientele basis.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in most styles like black and grey realism, color realism, trash polka, watercolor, traditional, black work, dot work, geometric, bio-organic, and neo-traditional.

Probably best known in this area for my black and grey as it’s in high demand and I do a lot of it. I would say my ability to fit large-scale custom work well on the body is what I excel at most and sets me apart from most other artists in my area.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Tattoo smart has been super helpful in my career and I occasionally listen to the “books closed” podcasts.
