Today we’d like to introduce you to Marla Brown.
Hi Marla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young girl, I loved doing my nails and family members’ nails. I’ve always wanted to own my own business. I’ve had the pleasure of opening and owning my own childcare center (little Einstein‘s learning academy). Unfortunately, in 2017, I had to close the doors to that dream. In 2020, I started teaching myself to do my own nails. I’ve always taken good care of my nails.
After doing nails for only 1 year and 7 months my growth was tremendous. I wanted to go even further with my talents and provide nail services and a pleasurable environment for women and men to feel comfortable, and beautiful. I am extremely proud of myself, along with my work in just 3 years.
Coming from doing nails on a small little table in my living room with limited supplies, I pushed myself to get to where I am today. I am enrolled in a beauty school where I will soon be graduating and a licensed nail technician. God has been by my side every step of the way! Talents like this don’t come naturally to everyone so I am super excited for my business future!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’m a single mother of a now 10-year-old boy. When I started in this profession my son was 7. In the beginning, I second-guessed myself when I left my full-time job to pursue beauty school and give more attention to improving my craft, while still caring for my son.
Promoting was slow and there was a time when I never thought I would get any client or where my supplies would come from. Did I make the right decision? Enjoy waking up going to school, meeting new people, and providing a pleasurable exciting experience. Every set of nails every manikin head my work has improved.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am in Beauty school to become a licensed professional nail technician. I really have a passion, love, joy, and sincere care for the art of nail fashion and the beauty of natural nails. I want to educate people on the healthiness of their nails. Also how they can properly care for and grow healthy natural fingernails and toenails.
I am most proud of my professionalism and my work. Where I can from 3 years ago to where I am today. What sets me apart is I get to know clients and see what their needs are when it comes to the care of their nails and toes and educate them during the service.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Professionalism and customer experience.
