Life & Work with Aishah Tatum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aishah Tatum.

Hi Aishah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was raised by an amazing woman who poured into me daily and although I felt my mother’s love, I still felt a void from not having my father. This void created an inner belief that I was somehow unwanted, unlovable, and undeserving.

This low self-worth coupled with my poor self-image caused me to struggle with seeing my own worth and my own beauty. So I would use food to cope, mostly sweets. I would get into relationships with men who only wanted to use me and I would always end up with a broken heart. Because of my low self-worth and lack of self-love, I played it safe never taking any risks or pursuing my dreams.

This went on for years until one day my life was flipped upside down. I was sitting at the hospital with my brother when the doctor called us to his office to tell us they found a large tumor inside of my mother’s uterus. They operated on my mother and said, “We got it all” and in our minds, we were thinking that she no longer had it. But that wasn’t the case. The tumor came back very aggressively, this time there were 6 all around my mother’s womb and lower back. The surgery and chemotherapy only made my mother feel worse and it was heartbreaking to watch. I saw the woman that I loved more than anything struggle to fight for her life.

Eleven months almost to the date that we discovered cancer, my mother took her last breath. It was gut-wrenching and I fell into a deep depression for over a year. I struggled with thoughts of not wanting to live, and feelings of depression, anxiety, anger, and guilt. One day, I found a message from my mother on an old cell phone that said, “Aishah, I can’t wait to see you speak all over the world.”

I broke down into tears and decided that day, I was going to let the pain push me into my purpose. I enrolled in a Holistic Detox Program to learn how to heal and loved it so much that I received my certification and started teaching at the school. People would travel from all over the world to learn the methods of holistic healing and now I’ve been blessed to speak, coach and teach others who want to learn how to heal holistically.

Since then I have become a Best Selling Author, written 5 books, obtained several additional certifications and have helped thousands of women on their healing, self love and wellness journeys.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle by far has been balance.

Balancing my ambitions, goals and dreams with motherhood and family life. There are times where I’ve had to work with my son sitting my lap and other times where I have had to place my business to the side to ensure my son is getting the love and attention that he needs.

I think as a mompreneur, I felt guilt many times on my journey to living and fulfilling my inner goals and dreams.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I teach women how to reclaim self love, self confidence and self care through emotional detoxing.

The process of emotional detoxing involves looking at every area of our lives, ourselves, our past, present and future and learning holistic processes and methods to release emotional, mental, physical and spiritual baggage blocking us from reaching our full potential and living out our God given purpose.

I am most proud of taking women on a journey of inner transformation and helping them to finally look at themselves in the mirror and be happy with what they see, learning to love themselves fully, take better care of themselves and believe in themselves give me a great sense of inner fulfillment and joy.

I have many accomplishments, but my biggest accomplishment however, is my beautiful son Amir, who has taught me what true unconditional love really is. I believe that family is more important than anything else in life and it gives me great joy to have been chosen to be Amir’s mom.

I believe what sets me apart from other coaches is my approach to healing and transformation. The sole reason I do what I do isnt just to help women heal, feel more confident and get healthier from the inside out, I do what I do because I know without truly loving ourselves, healing and being healthy it is impossible to become all that God has created us to be.

When we don’t heal, don’t believe in ourselves, take care of ourselves or even love ourselves, we will never fully express the inner genius and gifts God has given us to share with the world.

What makes you happy?
This question made me smile.

What makes me happy is waking up every day knowing that God has given me another chance to become a better me, to do more good and to shine the light that He has given me. It makes me happy to see my son smile and hear his laugh and it makes me happy to see purpose manifested in others.

These things make me happy because I know that others may not get the same chance, to experience another day, to have a beautiful family and to live in purpose and witness other people operating in their purpose.

I feel truly blessed and honored to have this gift called life.
