Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Ralston.
Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Photography was never in the cards as far as a career was concerned. I was a military veteran and spouse that was changing her civilian career every 3 to 4 years when it was time to move because of military orders. Starting over was getting old and frustrating.
I had a few friends that were already in the industry and it seemed like a good idea to me to start a business that I could take virtually anywhere with me. I fell in love with that beginner camera and a few simple pictures of my kids.
Thus, Alexis Ralston Photography was born.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think any business owner/entrepreneur would say that the road is smooth. It’s a constant battle with yourself and your mind, questioning if you’re even capable and then throwing in comparing yourself to everyone on social media.
The biggest struggle has been accepting where I am in my business at this moment. Being content with how far I’ve come and setting goals to ensure I continue to progress and be successful in the future.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in wedding and portrait photography and am known for my timeless images and the ability to make my clients feel at ease and comfortable in front of the camera. I love knowing that I am just a tiny part of my client’s biggest moments and that I’m documenting these intimate exchanges to be cherished for years to come. I am most proud of my ability to capture the imperfect.
When we think about wedding days we think of all the picture-perfect prettiness and honestly, wedding days are far from that. Behind the scenes can be a bit chaotic and that is the true beauty of a wedding day. I love capturing the good, the not-so-good and all the magic in between that tells the story.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
It often surprises people when I tell them I was in the military! I served 4 years in the Marine Corps and I am pretty proud to have earned that title.
