Today we’d like to introduce you to Bre’Ann James.
Hi Bre’Ann, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Ever since I was little, I had an interest in skin and hair. I think that came from my mother being a cosmetologist. While in high school, I still loved makeup and hair, but had picked up the idea of nursing and was set on that being my career. After starting college, I soon learned that my love for hair, skin and makeup was much bigger. I decided to change my major to Cosmetology, with many people telling me I would be better off staying in the medical field and beginning my new journey.
While in Cosmetology school, I found my love for the skin. I got detailed guidance with waxing techniques, skin anatomy, and different facial techniques in my facial classes. This pushed me into the esthetics world even further.
Not too long after graduating and getting my license, I began working at a well-known salon in Columbus. Still knowing that my passion was for esthetics, I found myself being the go-to brow person in the salon. After a while, I got the opportunity to work in a spa where I would be able to expand on my passion. I began working at the spa and learned new techniques for lash extensions, lifts and tints, full body waxing, and many other services. Not long after working there, COVID struck. It was a huge shock for us when we had to shut down and didn’t know when we would open again. Sadly, COVID took the spa along with maybe small businesses.
Starting my new business was a scary decision, but it was definitely worth it! I knew I wanted to find something of my own, but finding somewhere that would accommodate me as a solo esthetician needed a good amount of space. So, my co-worker and I talked and decided going in together would be the best option for our visions! It was the best idea we’ve ever had!
As separate companies, we opened our very own clinic together. We just celebrated our sixth month open, and I couldn’t imagine going through this process with anyone else!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think anything is ever a smooth road. Starting a business that involves close proximity with clients during a pandemic was the scariest thing of all. Not knowing how many, and if, clients would follow. Wondering if I would be able to get everything in on time to give my dream services. Thankfully, everyone has been so wonderfully supportive in this process. I have learned a lot through this time and still have a lot to learn.
Creating a space that welcomes everyone while still setting boundaries, was a big struggle. Owning a business is 24/7 work. Ideas in the middle of the night, ordering stock in-between clients, finding time to stretch when there are lashes all day. It never stops.
I’ve learned that’s the beauty though. I always have ideas running through my head on how to improve and expand what I love. It’s a journey that I know I’m capable of continuing.
We’ve been impressed with Honey Esthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened Honey Esthetics in April of 2021 after COVID closed my previous job. I have been a Master Cosmetologist for four years and have been specializing in esthetics for the past three, focusing on the health and integrity of skin and body hair. Body waxing and lash services will always be my true love.
I love doing research to find the best products for my clients. Finding the perfect wax to grab the hair without injuring the skin or breaking the hair, the best lash adhesive to give long retention and comfortable wear, the most impactful tints, and lifts to enhance the client’s beauty, is my favorite part of this job. I want to find the safest option for everyone.
Having a safe and open space for my clients to feel comfortable is one of the most important things for me. Waxing can be such an intimate service. I am proud that my clients know that any time they’re on my table, they can express whatever they need. Without trust, none of this would be possible.
My services are focused on treatment and results, while still being a relaxing experience. I offer many different facials with customized products based on what we are treating, full body waxing, lash extensions, and lifts and tints. There are many other services and additions that are in the works to be added soon!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
