Today we’d like to introduce you to Alanna Suttle.
Hi Alanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started in the small town of Gray Court, SC, where I have lived all my life. I have been doing photography since I was old enough to hold a camera. Throughout the years my passion for the outdoors grew. I always wanted to capture the world around me. Everyone I talk to says that my smile and personality can lighten a room. Which I think is represented in my photography because they capture the beauty in the extraordinary in the ordinary. I was the youngest member of the South Carolina Artist Community for a few years. Which inspired other young artists to join.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled with a disability called auto processing and many people bullied me for it through elementary and middle school, so I had to learn to overcome it and adapt. Back in 2017 I started homeschool online and it allowed me to have more time to focus on my photography. I have competed in many local level competitions back in my home town and won 1st place three years in a row. As well as state and national level in the beta club. I was able to graduate a year early and I was also doing dual enrollment with Greenville Technical College while still in high school. I graduated from high school in May 2024 and now I am here in Savannah Georgia as a SCAD student majoring in photography to get my BA.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in photography and I want my photos to have stories behind them and make you. But I also want them to make you feel something. My style of photography varies like I said I love the great outdoors such as nature and wildlife but I also love B&W photography, architecture, etc. I have done a bunch of extracurricular events like a few weddings, a bridal shower, an archery event, an ROTC event, commercializing products for a small company, and a bunch of photoshoots for every occasion. My editing style can vary depending on the shoot I am doing. I am good at matching people’s vibes to their photos. Either natural, colorful, and bright or I can do a little grundy I guess is the word for it, I throw a little bit of contrast and b&w’s into the photos to add more feeling.
