Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Velez.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was 6 years old I wanted to be singer. At the time, my favorite singers that I idolized so much and looked up to were Selena and Aaliyah. Years later when I was much older I decided to grab a pen and paper and start telling my story through my lyrics. Hopefully, one day I could find an audience that I could connect with and maybe my music would speak to them or help them with some of the life experiences I was confronted with in my life. As of right now currently I have an album called Nova Girl that is out right now that can be streamed on all music platforms. With the album itself it does briefly discuss who I am as person but the difficult choices I have had to overcome. I am also a model and have walked runways, been in catalogs, and have been in fashion shows. I’ve modeled for many designers and their brands. When I’m not working on my next album I am modeling for a new designer for an upcoming fashion show. I was also featured in a movies called beast of burden and in another film called bad moms 2. I got to appear in Slender man as a school teacher. I was even featured in a TV series called black lightning as a supervillain. I never expected to get as far as I have gotten but sometimes life surprises you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not always been a smoothe road. I think life in general has never been easy at all. I have met people and experinced alot of different things. Some people were genuine and others were not. Nonetheless, I was never discouraged and kept pursuing what I wanted. I did have people doubting me and saying I can never do this or that. But their lack of disbelief made me think otherwise. My drive just wanted to make me pursue my singing career. I was in choir when I was in high school and kept taking singing lessons. Also, I was enrolled in Drama 1 and 2 in theater. I wanted to pursue in becoming and actress as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As of right now I’m focused more on my music. Its like a form of art that I try to create. I have had so many other artists I have collaborated with. One Artist, his name is Atriel. We both have collaborated on an album called Sentimientos which is more of a Latin heritage vibe based album. We also collaborated on one song from my album Nova Girl called,”Day In Our Life.”
What I am most proud of Is the art I have created with other artists and my current album called Nova Girl. Continuously creating art whether its being on set for a film or walking for a desighner In a fashion. I am so grateful for the opportunities that people have given me and for the fans that still keep listening to my music.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The characteristic that I have is being punctual and being prepared for events. I say this becuase, its very important to be on time and always be prepared this includes fashion shows, filming, and even singing on stage. I owe these characteristics to because these are the rules I follow when it comes to being on stage. They are like my guidelines and its like as if I were applying for any regular employment. Its important to follow these rules because if not you can miss alot of opportunies and not get booked by anyone in the entertainment business.
