Check Out Chef Derrick Roberson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Derrick Roberson.

Hi Chef Roberson, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello everyone my name is Chef Derrick it is quite a pleasure to meet you, so without further a do it’s time for you to get to know me.

In 2020, I discovered that I have acquired a passion for cooking, it became something new something positive something fresh. I use to watch Chopped, Hell’s Kitchen, master chef, and all kinds of food network series the list goes on.

So I made a couple of different dishes such as Alfredo & steak and they came out great, so I decided to keep going. I wanted to know more and learn more and just educate myself in the world of cooking.

So I started baking and frying and doing breakfast, lunch, and dessert. My beautiful Savannah family inspired and encouraged me to take it further, so I did. I decided I wanted to be one with the client I wanted to know them I wanted to know more about the one-on-one and so I started doing private dining experiences and small event catering.

It is truly a blessing that God has given me to be able to go out and prepare meals for beautiful people. I wouldn’t give this up for anything I love my Savannah family and I love cooking. Hoping to serve you anywhere anytime. Your private Chef Derrick forever.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had many struggles, there will be times where I mess up on a dish or the price is too high so that in turn might turn clients away, and took me a while to get over those humps I had to understand that with losses comes a chance to get it right again.

So I will keep going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my day job, I am a regular truck driver and a private chef. I enjoy trucking but my world is cooking. I’m most proud of where I have come so far by faith.

I’m also proud and most of all thankful that I have a great support system behind me that has always been there for me close family members, other black-owned businesses that are close friends of mine, and most of all God who always saw me through.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
In business, it is always important to have a relaxed vibe, to present yourself at its finest, to be the best you can be, to always support others, and to know that you can do anything who Christ strengthens you.
