Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Clever.
Hi Christin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began photographing when I graduated high school. My godfather was a photographer and I was always interested in taking photos. I took a film photography course in college and fell in love!
I knew that being a full-time creative was not a likely lifestyle, and I had no desire of being a “starving artist” so I got a day job and photographed on my days off. I didn’t want to have a boss, so I created my own company – A Different Light Photography.
I began photographing weddings, seniors, couples, and families. After a few years, I added in boudoir, branding, and destination photography. Soon, I was busier with photography than I was at work, and my husband encouraged me to pursue photography full-time. I have been incredibly blessed to be full-time since 2017!
In 2019, we had the opportunity to move to Savannah due to my husband’s work. We jumped at the opportunity and moved our family and business down. We absolutely love Savannah!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, I have had a pretty smooth road to owning and running the business, The biggest struggle for me came in 2019 when we choose to move to Savannah. We had visited before but had no friends, family, or clients in the area. Moving, and then having a Covid hit, really put a big hurdle in getting my business started here.
Thankfully, I was able to book clients in the midst of the pandemic and continue working. I am so very grateful for my clients who have spread the word about my business and helped me grow so much in just two years here!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a natural light photographer that specializes in lifestyle portraits. I love getting to tell my client’s stories through photos that showcase who they truly are, with an artistic flair! I love sunrises, sunsets, and sun flares! I shoot a wide array of sessions including Branding, Boudoir, Couples, Families, Elopements, and Seniors.
I am most proud that I have been running a successful business for 10 years, even with moving to a new state in 2019, and I recently became the staff photographer for a magazine!
One thing that sets me apart from other photographers is my love of the spooky season! Each year, I photograph 20-50 individual creative sessions where my clients are able to bring their cosplay/costumes to life! I love the challenge of finding the perfect location, outfits, hair, make-up, special effects, and editing to really nail the vision that they have!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
A favorite childhood memory is taking a family vacation to the beach each year. We always spent at least a week in Myrtle Beach, SC to visit my grandparents. We relaxed on the beach, did lots of boogie boarding, at crab legs, and hunted for sharks’ teeth!
We always took time to get out old photo albums and my great-grandma would tell me who was in each photo, what had happened that day, with a huge smile on her face! We also took tons of new photos, and now that my grandparents have passed they are some of my favorite things to look at!
