Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Cardillo.
Hi Frank, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Little Gracie started the summer of 2019 as just two members playing country music on acoustic guitars. They quickly picked up another guitarist and formed a bluegrass group until Victor took up the drums. They got their name from Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, that holds a tombstone of little Gracie Watson, daughter of the owner of the DeSoto Inn in the early 19th century. They were only playing, if lucky, one FREE show every two months by the time COVID rolled around. We then had a falling out with our drummer, and Curry and Frank moved on with another drummer in town, Quinn, to take over for the summer. After the Summer another local drummer, Jet took the roll of drummer as Quinn went off to college. The three-piece went on to playing more gigs and even picked up a keyboard player, Zeke, for the Stopover Festival and future gigs. Knowing that Curry and Zeke were soon to leave for school in 2022, the member of Little Gracie went out and found a new drummer, Ross to take over and a new guitarist Jackson to replace Curry. They continued hard playing various different venues throughout the southeast United States and in the fall of 2022, they brought Jackson’s brother Addison in to play bass, which is the official lineup that they play as today. Ross and Frank switch on drums and guitar, with Ross also playing keys for most of their new album “Little Gracie.” They have played many venues including the 40 Watt in Athens, District Live and Eastern Wharf in Savannah, and two Festivals the Stopover Fest main stage in 2022 and Daufuskie Music Fest in 2021 and 2022, plus multiple other bars, restaurants, Fraternities, and venues in the Southeast.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been an interesting road with many band members leaving for school, not being able to find drummers, and falling out with others. It has not always been easy, but it has been fun along the way. In the beginning, it was very difficult to find gigs and places to play as no venue would answer or hire a new band on the scene. We eventually built a name for ourselves in town and have conquered that hill. We have also had some creative differences and problem with commitment to the group, so members had to leave, and since most of the band was in high school or still is that also brought a struggle with being able to find time during the week to practice. Now we are going very strong and are extremely busy, and love sharing our music with everyone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of starting this band and getting it to take off the way it did.
