Check Out Jennifer Griffin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Griffin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey receiving massage 20 years ago. It became an important part of my self care/sanity as a mother raising 6 kids. When I moved to Connecticut I start doing personal training at Anytime Fitness. This became such a pivot in my life and I pursued this career. I was fitness coach for 7 years, became yoga certified and then sought out certification in Thai massage. I had been receive Thai and was such a level up in my massage experience. After 2020 I dropped coaching and went full time Thai massage bodywork. Last year I wanted to round out my qualification and went to school to be a licensed massage therapist. Now I can happily say I offer it all!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I always tell people to follow their curiosity instead of their passion. My curiosity led me one step to the next and led me to where I’m at. 20 year old me didn’t have a clue what Thai massage was. Heck 40 year old me didn’t know. But through life’s experiences and intuition I grew into this profession.
My clients for personal training became my core clientel for Thai massage. It was an easy transition because they were my willing bodies while I was learning. I also utilized social media in a very natural way and drew lots of attention on instagram. I worked from my home at first and then one day a sign caught my eye for rental space. I called it was perfect and I’ve been there 5 years.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Blackbird Wellness and Healing is mainly a massage business, both table and Thai massage. Thai massage has been around thousands of years. It is just one piece of an elaborate system of Thai Medicine. In a nutshell Thai massage incorporates soft tissue manipulation, moving of the “sen” fluids of the body and stretching. It has been coined lazy man’s yoga. Thai massage not only benefits the joints, muscles and circulation of the body, it is a great practice in letting go. The receive must relax and allow themselves to be moved.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Massage is one of those professions that tech can’t replace. Yes there are hydrobed and massage chairs, but nothing compairs to the intuition of human touch.
