Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Morton.
Hi Joanne, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
How did a Mid-Western, New Yorker with a West Coast vibe end up living in the South? Like so many people who find themselves in Savannah, we were guided here because we listened to our hearts.
My journey to the south began on April 12, 2010, I took a train to Atlanta from New York City with my community engagement art project. I had no idea where I would be in one month. Three weeks later, I was living on Tybee Island, GA. A year and a half later, I traveled for six months across the country with my art project, the Manifesting Mobile.
At the end of the summer of 2012, I returned to Savannah to put down some roots. As much as I loved living in New York City, that part of my journey was over. It was time to be a full time artist!
Over the last decade, we have experienced a lot of change and upheaval in our communities. We are learning to understand that old systems are not sustainable for the growth of everyone equally. We are feeling the effects of poor business decisions regarding the health of our planet. In the last two years, we have collectively felt grief from all of the deaths related to COVID.
This is why I have decided to travel with my Manifesting Mobile again. It’s an opportunity to bring people together to inspire hope for our future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The real challenge that I have had over the years is getting in my own way. I spent most of my twenties being afraid to go after my childhood dream to move to New York City because I didn’t think I could afford it or know what to do. It took until my 29th birthday that I finally went to visit Manhattan. I will be forever grateful to my friend who invited me to stay with him for one month while I set up my new life. This was the first time that I realized we need help from other people to make things happen. No one does it alone. In fact, most of the times that I’ve felt challenges are when I didn’t ask for help from people or even the “higher power” which is definitely a source of help.
To make the move to New York City, I had to face my biggest fear. When I leaned into the fear and made the move happen, I discovered that taking action towards your dreams, life flows so much easier! And even though I arrived with only $1200 in my bank account and one friend, a month later, I had a super cool East Village apartment, a job and a few more friends because I was living in my dream city!
This discovery of leaning into my fear was only part of the work I had to do to feel 100% good about my life and myself. At the start of 2001, I realized I didn’t have the courage to share my creative work. So, once again, I stepped into my fear and began to take action to become an artist. I was also getting introduced to metaphysical teachers, the law of attraction and the power of gratitude. Over the next ten years, I discovered my artistic vision and spiritual journey.
Once I learned all that I could learn as a New Yorker, I knew it was time to seek new adventures and answers. Of course, this meant that I would have to step into the unknown.
Because I made a choice of taking a leap of faith into the unknown, it gave me the courage to believe in my ability to manifest my dream to be a full time artist who travels with her creative projects.
I was fortunate that my parents gave me their old Ford Windstar minivan in 2010. It took me a year and half after getting the minivan to actually start traveling. I stayed with new friends while I worked out a plan and hustled for ways to make money. As an artist, it’s so important to have multiple streams of income – there have been some moments in my life where money has been flowing and other times where it’s been a slow flow. That’s always a challenge!
It was the ebb and flow of successes that has led me to use affirmations to maintain a positive mindset. Affirmations help my energy to take the necessary action steps.
I have had moments where I feel like quitting but I never do because I don’t want to do anything else. I will do whatever I need to do to continue with my work. There is no time line – it doesn’t matter how old you are, if there is something your soul wants to do, then you can find a way to do it.
It was during the time that I was traveling by myself with the Manifesting Mobile that I started to embrace my power. Something about being able to spend six months on the road at age 46 was empowering. I was traveling because I wanted an adventure. I was meeting people to share my art project. Yes, there were times when I would sit in a parking lot and cry because I didn’t know where I was going or I had to fix something with the minivan. I would let the tears flow, sometimes call a friend and remember that I have what it takes to handle any challenge.
Being a human brings a lot of challenges. Some challenges you create and some are created by others. These last two years have been super challenging however, they have also been the best learning opportunities. One thing that I have learned over the years is that nothing is for certain. I never thought I would leave NYC once I got there, however, I’m not there anymore. I never thought I would live in the south and I love living in Savannah. I never thought that I would be ok being single, I used to feel bad that I wasn’t in a committed relationship. However, I love being single and I have amazing relationships with great people. I used to be afraid to try things I didn’t know how to do now, I know that all I have to do is ask and the answers will be revealed.
I continue to push myself to go after the bigger goals even if they are scary because I know I can handle any challenge. All I need to remember to do is ask for help and be open to receiving.
I encourage you to do what you are most afraid of because once you discover the love inside that fear – you will know exactly what to do. That’s what happens when you activate Magic Passion Love. Magic Passion Love is a renewable, sustainable positive energy source found within all of us. When used, life feels good. When shared, WOW!
The world needs your WOW!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist, performer and event planner who uses art and creative experiences to help people activate positive energy within themselves so they go from feeling stressed and frustrated to feeling relaxed and motivated.
I have created the Manifesting Mobile. This is a visual tapestry of intentions that is an alternative to a vision board. The Manifesting Mobile is available online as a Do-it-yourself kit and I also offer Manifesting Mobile classes. These are 50 minute sessions, where we use gratitude, laughter and visualization games.
I have been co-creating a community Manifesting Mobile since 2010. This year, I am making plans to exhibit in cities across the country starting in Savannah. This April, the community will have the opportunity to participate in creating the world’s largest hanging mobile comprised of hundreds of dreams by people from all walks of life. This is a vision board for humanity. I’m calling the tour, “MANIFEST 2022, a traveling interactive community art experience.”
The Manifesting Mobile intention is to build community awareness and unity to protect our planet by collaborating with businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, faith-based groups, civic organizations, neighborhood associations, schools and community members to build a collective positive vision for our Planet, People and Prosperity.
I am inviting anyone who is reading this article to be a part of the Manifesting Mobile – all you have to do is make a circle and share what you are manifesting for a healthy future. Contact me for details!
What makes you happy?
Hanging out with friends, making good food and having inspired conversations always makes me happy. I think what really makes me happy is making the choice to pursue my creative projects. The process of creating a painting or an event is part of the enjoyment – seeing something be created out of an idea into something real is amazing especially when you are collaborating with smart and fun people which I’ve been very fortunate enough to work with!
Another thing that makes me happy is being in nature makes me happy because TREES are my religion! I love seeing the sunset on the ocean, being in the mountains and seeing the wide open space on the open plains. I think that’s why I love traveling so I can experience all kinds of nature including people!

This is wonderful to read about Joanne Morton, a colleague of mine; both of us are leaders, teachers and artists. We both lived in New York City; we both branched out into communities that helped us pursue our creative paths and projects!!
