Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Griffin
Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for photography started my freshman year of highschool! I was in a digital photography class, and for rest of my highschool career I made sure to be in the same digital photography class. I simply fell in love with the idea of photography and all that comes with it! When I started going to a youth group at 17, I wanted to serve but wasn’t sure what would be the best fit for me until my pastors let me take photos for a service one night. From that moment, I haven’t put the camera down and I still use it as my way to serve in the church, I capture photos almost every Sunday at Local Church! I started my own business (with the convincing of all my friends) in March of 2024 and a year later I have booked over 150 sessions!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part yes, but figuring out my own creative style was probably the hardest. Photography is a very competitive profession especially in Savannah. I would find myself comparing and over analyzing all my photos. But after stepping out of my comfort zone, I was able to find my creative style. I think allowing myself to fully trust in God, got me to where I am today!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m all about photos you can “feel.” I want the people who view my photos to really feel the emotion that is being portrayed. So right now, I really just photograph anything and everything, from weddings, branding shoots, family pictures, couples, honestly whatever you need a picture of! I think my personality and creative touch on photography has a lot to do with what has made me and my business thrive so quickly. Anyone can learn the settings of a camera to get a good picture but not everyone has the eye or creative vision to really capture someone’s true self. My biggest goal when it comes to someone getting their picture taken is that they feel beautiful and most of the time it’s the pictures that they aren’t “posing” for that really makes the photo . I’m all about silly prompts and lots of movement. I also feel like I have an edgy touch to my editing style, lots of blue, darker undertones which I feel like you don’t see very often when it comes to most photographers in Savannah!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I definitely see newer technology playing a big role in the change of photography in the next 5-10 years. Newer softwares or cameras making it easier for anyone to snap a photo. But i still think the demand for unique styles will remain the same! I’m just hoping the uncentered, slanted photo trend goes away ( unless it’s a avant-garde masterpiece i’m missing )
