Today we’d like to introduce you to Leeann Mayes.
Hi Leeann, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my interior design business 12 years ago in Asheville, NC. I design residential and commercial spaces and my business has been 100% referral-based which I take as a huge compliment to my work and work ethic. One of my favorite projects was a boutique hotel in Asheville called, “The Windsor” I won an award for historic preservation, and the property was featured in several magazines.
I enjoy every single client and project that I work on, and it’s a fun process bringing my client’s design visions to life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I always had a passion for interior design, I decided to go for it and start my own business. Hopefully, from my client’s perspective it has been a fairly smooth road. Behind the scenes there were times it was a struggle to juggle being a single mother and working nights and weekends with clients to accommodate their schedules.
My projects generally go smoothly because on the job I ask a LOT of questions and work closely with every contractor, I’m always learning and passing that knowledge on in each new project.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My goal with every client is to save them time, money and deliver a space that they love. I think I have been successful in realizing that goal because referrals from satisfied clients are the main way my business grows.
I love being an Interior Designer and owning my business. I am proud of the homes and projects that I help my clients realize and enjoy. I enjoy taking plans from paper to reality and delivering a project to my clients that they love.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Ask questions!!! There is no such thing as a dumb question. Learn about all of the aspects of a project and be “hands-on” as much as you can. Be available but set boundaries because with virtual everything now, you could literally be available 24/7. Understand that you need downtime to be at your best.
