Check Out Lisa Bell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Bell.

Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a retired school teacher and mother of four. I spent my life teaching students, cooking team meals, sewing costumes, building sets, tutoring the team, and mentoring youth.

My favorite thing to do in Savannah is to walk around and share stories and facts about this beautiful place with my family and friends. My second favorite hobby is playing games with my children, from trivia games, to scrabble and everything in between.

One day, on one of my daily walks, I had an epiphany– why not combine my two favorite hobbies… playing games and walking? Teacher Lisa is a hoot and enjoys playing the role of teacher and storyteller in her classroom, The city of Savannah.

If your idea of a perfect tour of Savannah includes learning about Savannah’s squares, churches, history, haunting’s, movies, and pop culture while you walk around our beautiful city…

Then come on tour with the teacher.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are many tours to select from. Many of the tours allow 25 to 40 people.

One challenge was finding the right time of day to provide a tour. I did not want to provide a tour and stand in a square with three other tour groups. I wanted a more intimate experience for my guests. I never have a tour larger than 15.

Another obstacle was being recommended by hotels. I visited many hotels and found it difficult to win their approval to be recommended to their guests.

Of course, Covid was also a tough time for tourism.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Be patient. Be sincere. Try and help your guests to love in Savannah as much as you do. What would you want on your vacation?
