Check Out Lisa Wright’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Wright.

Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have always wanted to work in the beauty industry, supporting women and men to express their definition of beauty. I started my journey into the field as a MAC makeup artist, and I absolutely loved it! Few things are more rewarding than seeing my clients smile when they first look in the mirror.

During that time, I was also a phlebotomist at a major hospital. Both backgrounds led me to pursue a nursing degree in order to become an aesthetic nurse, blending my love for aesthetics and clinical medicine. After having my son and going through the pandemic, I reassessed my career path and decided to head in a different direction. My family is a huge priority, especially since I only have my husband and son with me here in Georgia. I want to be able to capture all the special moments and be there for my son when my husband deploys.

The decision to pursue permanent makeup was kismet, truly meant to be. I took a permanent makeup course which confirmed all my desires, this is what I want to do. In my class I was so inspired by my trainers, all the talented artists, and successful female entrepreneurs; I wanted that for myself. I spent months researching and with the support from my family, I finally opened up Lip Lab.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey hasn’t been the smoothest; being a new mom and military spouse has added numerous complexities.

Transitioning from different cities, jobs, and phases of life has been challenging. In each of these cities, I have pushed myself to try a new career so I could find something I’m passionate about. The most challenging part of my journey was starting over at a new job every few years.

Slowly I would work my way up, getting promotions and raises, only to resign and start all over again in a new city. Though these challenges have been frustrating at times, they have let me become a makeup artist, a phlebotomist, a manager, and most importantly, an owner of my own business.

So, while it hasn’t been the smoothest, I would not have had the opportunities, growth, and drive I have today without being put into those situations. I have never been so happy and confident here at Lip Lab.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Beauty is a form of art. As artists, we create, embellish, adapt, improve, and master our techniques and skills. We never stop learning and drive ourselves to be the best for ourselves and our clients. For every client, I try to marry their natural beauty and aesthetic goals to deliver their desired look. Lips and brows are what I specialize in for now. Permanent makeup can improve the shape, volume, and density of both the brows and lips. The two most popular brow services I perform are microblading and powder brows.

Microblading is a natural technique that delivers hair-like strokes of pigment into the skin, thus mimicking natural hair. Powder brows, which can be subtle or more of a makeup look, create a beautiful shadow on the skin, mimicking when you fill them in with makeup. Lastly, I perform lip blush. There are many variations you can achieve, such as watercolor: most natural, velvet: a saturated sheen that improves shape and color, lipstick: a thoroughly saturated technique to give the ultimate makeup look, and ombre: which is a two-toned technique to deliver definitional perfected lips.

When I attended my training, I knew I wanted to specialize in lips; thus naming my business Lip Lab. Only to find out I love doing brows just as much. At Lip Lab I offer an additional service that is not permanent makeup but is a brow makeover. Makeovers include a brow tint and brow lamination. Tinting and laminating the brows can dramatically change your shape and density, giving instant fluffy and beautiful full brows. I strive to provide the absolute best service to all my clients by listening, explaining the procedure thoroughly throughout the process, offering music selection, and of course, outstanding results. When people hear the words “permanent makeup” they hear “forever” which is not the case.

All my services offer versatility over time, especially lips. The pigments I use for lips are so different from other artists. They give an amazing natural and youthful look that will gradually fade out of the skin over time. The versatility allows you to change the appearance, color, and saturation a few years later.

I truly believe it is so important to have control over your appearance, most of us probably don’t have the same hair from a few years ago, so this is no different. Beauty is everchanging and my clients should have that option too.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Permanent makeup is only growing more and more rapidly each and every day. We invest so much in our hair, skin, nails, wellness, and hobbies, and now people prioritize permanent makeup as another worth wild investment. It saves so much time each morning not having to spend ten minutes filling in your eyebrows, or you can go to the gym and your brows won’t sweat off.

As a society, we are on our phones, documenting precious moments with our friends, family, and kids, all while feeling confident when our favorite features are highlighted at any moment. I am so excited to provide a service that makes people feel their best in those moments.

I am also thrilled I am starting my career in permanent makeup while it is still evolving; so that five years from now when new techniques and trends come out, my skills are perfected. Being affiliated with the military means I’m bound to relocate, but my dream is to expand and grow.
