Check Out Terrence Pasley’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrence Pasley.

Hi Terrence, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hello! My name is Terrence Pasley, Owner & creator of Terry’s Taste. As long as I can remember, I have always been very fond of Art & cooking since I was a young boy. During the beginning of my 20s, I was studying Phlebotomy and decided I could make some extra money selling plates of food to those in my area. Being a broke college student, you tend to find the most effective solutions to make money even when it’s the easiest.
Soon after selling a few meals, I had one of my very first clients reach out to inquire more about my business. At the time, I had no intention of running a business or how to create one, so I always tell people “Terry’s Taste” really was a quick made-up business name I came up with. Terry’s taste is really myself (Terrence but I go by Terry) putting my own spin on food I make with a variety of flavors & ingredients.

The name has made a tremendous impact on the quality of my food as well as the quantity. This was something I started just for fun but turned out to be an amazing opportunity for me to show others the talent I have & establish long-lasting relationships with my clients. Terry’s taste is more than just food and service, it is my way of life. Seeing the memorable moments created thru the food I make with my hands truly brings joy to my heart and overall gives me a sense of accomplishment.

My gift has brought so many together during times we couldn’t really spend with most due to the pandemic & I couldn’t be more enthusiastic to see what other ventures will stumble on my path. I hope I’m able to someday have my own small mom-and-pop shop to really show what Terry’s Taste is all about, but for now, I’m great being your friendly neighborhood chef!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest obstacles I had to encounter while running my own business was really thinking that because I will automatically have friends and family to always contribute to my business and shop. I realize that I had to be a lot more firm with my answers and stick to my guidelines with my business so that I don’t seem as though I’m a pushover.

You tend to run into a lot of people that seem to get over on you or think that just they deserve special discounts just simply for the fact of knowing you before you created your business. Although those are small obstacles that every business owner has to overcome, I think the biggest obstacle that I would say would really be trying to maintain a business while working a full-time job and trying to have a regular social life.

The last six years have taught me that I’m not really made for a job or working underneath others but working for myself seems to be more adequate for me to do. It’s easier for me to be on schedule with things so that I can follow it to the best of my ability for my business and personal life

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Outside of work, I work as a school dietary nutritionist for Alexandria city public schools and I also work as a group leader for an extended day program through Alexandria city called Campagna

I always wanted to be a teacher and both jobs gave me the opportunity to work closely with kids, giving them strengthening learning skills that can teach them about nutrition as well as everyday life skills. I enjoy working with children and guiding them to the fullest of my ability.

In my opinion, I feel that school systems don’t have a lot of teachers that want to be there to help teach the kids. With everything going on today, we need a lot of well-grounded teachers to assist the kids because they are our future. Doing my best and making sure to help within the community so that it creates a suitable environment for the children.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory I would say would be sitting in my room or the majority of the time outside drawing, painting, etc, and getting lost in my imagination.

I always would find anything and everything to draw but do it my own way. When I was eight years old, I wrote my very first book. It wasn’t a really extensive book but just a simple book you think any other eight-year-old would write about.

I still have a book today and I always tend to look over it for extra motivation when I don’t have any.
