Hi Terry, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always love fashion and found that most places didnt have alot of options for Men. Most are polos and jeans or khakis and t-shirts. I bought a fedora and noticed the confidence that it reinforced and the compliments that came with it. My wife and i have always been creative and she said I think you can make these. We started doing research and ordered a few hats to practice on. I began to get compliments on the ones I made more than the one I bought. That was the birth of Slicklidz. That was in 2021. We’ve grown and learned so much since then. We do mainly custom work with 100% wool hats. These allow us to practically turn them into any color or style with paint, heat and steam. I just wanted to give men more options but it seems that both men and women love our fedoras. They embrace individuality, strength and confidence. When someone puts on a Slicklidz you can literally see the confidence ooze out of them. That is the moment that I live for as the CEO of Slicklidz. When a client sees themselves in that manner its such a rewarding and empowering feeling. It’s the motivation that keeps me going. I want everyone to embrace the best version of themselves. If our hats can help do that, then we’ve done something extraordinary. Our slogan is Bold, Strong, Confident. Our goal is that every client feels that each and everytime they place that crown on their queen, king or themselves. Thank you for your time……Slicklidz
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My wife, my business partner and I all work separate jobs other than Slicklidz. That in itself requires alot of sacrifice. So the struggle is always what can we do to expand the business while keeping everything going in our own households. Getting supplies and materials has been challenging due to today’s government policies but through it all we’ve been able to keep things going pretty smoothly.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My life has been varied in career paths. Master Barber….model…National recording artist….Sgt in the US Army….Licensed Sea Captain since 2015..District Manager for Goodwill …im currently an Opertion Manager for Maersk. I oversee operations for Garan, Timberland and Kipling. Before that, I ran Operations for Red Bull. My life has truly been a testament of determination and faith. I’ve tried to maximize every opportunity that I was presented with. I’m most proud of being married 38 years. My wife has been very instrumental to everything I’ve ever done as she is now. I think what sets me apart is that I still believe in humanity and the good thats in it. Media and news wants us to think differently but I truly believe that love conquers all boundaries and obstacles.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice would be …Go for it! That vision or dream can manifest with grit and determination. Get around people that celebrate you and the things you want to do. Ask questions. Get around people who are passionate about what they are doing. Passion comes from doing something that you love. Seeing that in front of you, helps you keep going on tough days. I wish I would’ve started earlier.
