Today, we’d like to introduce you to Vasav.
Hi Vasav, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Imagine a journey that begins in the bustling streets of India, where a young, creative mind is nurtured by the vibrant culture and rich heritage of the land. This is where my story begins, a story that has taken me on an exhilarating path of self-discovery and artistic exploration.
My quest for knowledge and creativity led me to Savannah in 2021, where I embarked on a transformative journey pursuing an MFA in Animation at SCAD. But my journey didn’t start there. It began with humble beginnings at a Design Consultancy, where I honed my skills as a Junior Designer and Illustrator. Here, I discovered my passion for the intricate dance between art and technology, propelling me towards the world of animation.
As a visual artist, I am a storyteller, weaving narratives through various mediums such as drawing, painting, photography, cinematography, and sound design. My time at an international art university has been nothing short of magical, allowing me to immerse myself in diverse cultures and traditions, which serve as the bedrock of my creative expression.
Growing up in India, spirituality and mythology were not just stories but a way of life. These influences are deeply ingrained in my work, adding depth and meaning to my art. I use my creations as a medium to communicate, to provoke thought, and to inspire change.
Guided by the wisdom of great mentors, I have honed my craft and gained invaluable insights into art and design. My background in fashion college in India exposed me to the dynamic and interconnected nature of the creative industry, sparking my curiosity for the technical aspects of creative processes and systems.
But my journey is not just about art and design. It is also about exploration and discovery. My passion for traveling and experiencing different cultures has shaped me into a curious thinker, a multidisciplinary designer, and an artist with a global perspective. This exposure has not only enriched my viewpoints but has also fueled my creativity, pushing me to explore new ideas and push the boundaries of what is possible.
As I continue on this journey, I am driven by a desire to create art that not only captivates but also inspires. I am deeply aware of the issues of sustainability and strive to use my art as a tool for positive change, contributing towards a more sustainable and equitable world.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The road I’ve traveled has been anything but smooth, echoing the sentiment that “not all who wander are lost.” Along the way, I’ve encountered numerous challenges and hardships, each leaving an indelible mark on my career and outlook on life.
From the early days of my career at a Design Consultancy to my pursuit of an MFA in Animation at SCAD, every step has been met with its own set of obstacles. Yet, through persistence and resilience, I’ve learned that no challenge is insurmountable. Each hurdle has provided an opportunity for growth and self-discovery, reinforcing my belief in the power of perseverance.
Art and spirituality have been my pillars of strength, guiding me through the darkest moments and fueling my creative expression. Growing up in India, I learned to embrace challenges as part of life’s journey, finding solace in believing that every struggle is a stepping stone to greater heights.
Despite the setbacks, my passion for art and my fascination with different cultures have remained unwavering. They have helped me navigate through adversity and encouraged me to embrace the unknown, knowing that each challenge is a catalyst for personal and artistic growth.
As I continue on this path, I am reminded that every obstacle is an opportunity in disguise. With a spirit of perseverance and a heart full of creativity, I am confident in my ability to overcome any challenge that comes my way, turning each setback into a stepping stone towards a brighter, more fulfilling future.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
At the core of my work lies the art of storytelling, a blend of artistic expression, keen observation, and thoughtful interpretation. My creative journey is not just about creating art but also about inspiring and mentoring others to discover their own artistic voices in the realms of art, technology, and design education.
I specialize in mixing different mediums and techniques to create captivating artworks that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling. My passion for animation and visual effects drives me to explore innovative workflows, culminating in my current project titled “JALAJ”—a mixed media musical narrative about an Indian Monk and an upstate Rapper that serves as my thesis work.
In addition to animation, I also have a deep appreciation for photography and drone cinematography, capturing the beauty of nature and destinations from unique perspectives. These mediums allow me to not only express myself creatively but also to connect with my audience on a deeper level, evoking emotions and sparking imagination.
What sets me apart from others is my holistic approach to art and storytelling. I don’t just create art; I live and breathe it, constantly seeking new ways to innovate and inspire. Whether it’s through my artwork, my mentoring, or my use of technology as a learning platform, I strive to make a meaningful impact in the world of art and design.
I’m most proud of my ability to blend art and technology seamlessly, creating immersive experiences that resonate with audiences worldwide. My work is not just about creating visually stunning pieces; it’s about telling stories that inspire, provoke thought, and evoke emotions—a testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries and connect us all.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis and subsequent lockdowns were transformative for me, serving as a pivotal moment that reshaped my life and career. Transitioning to remote work taught me the importance of consistency and perseverance in any profession, as well as the value of efficient time management to maintain productivity.
During the lockdown, I made the difficult decision to leave my job, using this as an opportunity to approach the art and design industry with a fresh perspective. I began creating design curricula for schools in South India, a venture that not only allowed me to contribute to education but also gave me a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
This period also deepened my connection with my mentors, providing me with fresh motivation to explore the intersection of art and technology. Ultimately, this led me to pursue animation as a new and exciting venture, further fueling my passion for creativity and innovation.
