Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Lightsey.
Hi Angela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Savannah Native and have resided on Tybee Island for 17 years. During the pandemic, I was going through a divorce while facilitating my child’s school and navigating our collective trauma dealing with COVID. I knew something had to change.
My professional career for the past 20 years was based wholly on hospitality. I began my personal journey with the practices we offer at the retreats or the “woo-woo” about 7 years ago. It came like a lightning bolt that I had the skills and knowledge to combine the two and create an experience that so many of us need.
Through this experience, Tybee Wellness Retreats was born and Nomad soon after. Today, and with the help of our incredible team, we create warm environments for women to feel safe and explore self care tools that will enhance their lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I launched the first set of retreat dates during the 2nd outbreak of COVID. Heartbroken, I contemplated delaying the retreats. Then, after a long conversation with a trusted friend, I realized that we NEED this type of experience now more than ever.
I came up with many COVID safe protocols to give our guests and our providers peace of mind. There were a few retreats where guests tested positive and had to come to a later retreat instead. I never anticipate a smooth road. One of my favorite quotes talks about how we must learn to use the ever-changing wind in our sails to move us forward. I love that. When something deviates from my original plan, I think “plot twist” and ride the wave. Most of the time, it is where I needed to go in the first place. I practice all of the self-care tools we provide & that is instrumental in my response to challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Tybee Wellness Retreats creates a safe and comfortable space allowing women to let go of their tensions and apprehensions to be immersed in a transformative experience through our workshops, healthy cuisine and private services.
We all come together in a luxury home on Tybee (and soon-to-be other locations). During the experience, we have an on-site chef, yoga classes, a sound bath, a coaching workshop, an energy workshop, an art workshop, and a surprise closing ceremony.
All of this is included in the base rate. We also have private services available including massage, energy healing, meditation, craniosacral therapy, pranayama (breath work), hypnosis, and skin care for an additional fee. Right now, the groups are for women only but we hope to expand to many different types of retreats in the future.
Nomad is the sister company of Tybee Wellness Retreats. Our band of “Nomads” are available to travel to guests (visitors and locals) on Tybee or in Savannah proper. We offer the private services we have at the retreats for all people. Nomad hosts group workshops such as sound baths, art (mandala making & vision journaling), group coaching, several different types of yoga, group hypnosis, and much more. We can facilitate wedding parties, bachelorette weekends, birthdays, reunions, corporate events, & personal retreats.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
