Community Highlights: Meet Constance Calton of Constance Calton Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Constance Calton

Hi Constance, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My interest in photography started in middle and high school, but at the time, professional photos were mostly taken at places like Kmart and Walmart—there weren’t many creative or personalized options. So, I never really saw it as something I could turn into a career.

Fast-forward to when my daughter was born, and everything changed. Becoming a parent made me realize how important it was to capture moments in a way that felt real and meaningful—something I didn’t really get to experience myself. That’s what sparked my passion for photography. I wanted to create an experience that felt personal, authentic, and truly special.

Before photography, I was in a career that didn’t truly fulfill me. I went to college and earned a BS in Chemistry. I worked as a quality control scientist for years but always felt something was missing. I wanted to do something that felt more creative and meaningful and make an impact. The more I explored photography, the more I realized how much I loved capturing real, emotional moments. What started as a passion quickly turned into something bigger. Now, I get to help others preserve their own special memories, and I couldn’t be more grateful for where this journey has taken me!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any journey, there have been plenty of challenges along the way. When I first started, I had to learn everything from scratch—how to use my camera properly, how to work with lighting, how to edit photos, and, most importantly, how to make people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Photography isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about creating an experience, and that took time to master.

One of the biggest struggles was building confidence. Switching from a stable corporate career to something completely different was scary. I questioned whether I was good enough, whether people would trust me, and whether I could actually turn this passion into a sustainable business. Imposter syndrome was real!

Of course, there’s the business side of things. Running a legal photography business isn’t just about taking beautiful pictures. It’s very expensive, and you have to wear all the hats and learn marketing, client communication, pricing, and all the behind-the-scenes work that people don’t always see. There were definitely moments when I felt overwhelmed, but every challenge taught me something valuable.

Looking back, I’m grateful for those struggles because they pushed me to grow. It hasn’t been a smooth road, but every obstacle has shaped me into the photographer and business owner I am today.

We’ve been impressed with Constance Calton Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is all about capturing real, meaningful moments in a natural and authentic way. I specialize in motherhood photography—maternity, newborn, baby milestones, classic children’s heirlooms, and family sessions—while creating a relaxed, comfortable experience where genuine emotions shine through.

What sets me apart is my full-service approach. I provide professional hair and makeup, a curated client closet, and high-quality artwork, including prints and albums, so families can enjoy a seamless, stress-free experience from start to finish.

More than just taking photos, I focus on building connections. Many of my clients become friends, and I love being part of their journey, preserving moments they’ll cherish forever.

For anyone looking for photography that captures love, laughter, and everything in between, I’d love to be part of your story!

What makes you happy?
Happiness is time with my daughter, capturing meaningful memories, and enjoying life’s simple joys—baby animals, Disney, bird watching, collecting shells, and good food. It’s about appreciating the little things that make life special.
