Today we’d like to introduce you to Corina Costa.
Corina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Corina Costa Beauty Studio was born from a Venezuelan immigrant who arrived 7 years ago to the United States with two suitcases full of illusions with her husband and her little daughter.
After living in Florida for a year, they arrived in Charleston, and like many immigrants, they had to start from scratch, doing whatever they could. Corina started working for a company cleaning houses of all kinds; then, she became independent and partnered with a friend working in the same field. At the same time, she was teaching Spanish at a small academy on James Island and at several schools in the low country.
From a very young age, I was passionate about beauty and personal care, and among family and friends, I was a makeup artist, hair stylist, manicurist but always did it as a hobby.
I graduated as a Human Resources Specialist; I love helping people and analyzing human behavior. Although I studied this career, I always had in mind one day to venture into the aesthetic area, and just when we had to emigrate from our country, began the boom of eyebrows and eyelashes, which I found fascinating.
In March 2020, with the arrival of the pandemic, I was left without the job of cleaning houses and also without the classes at the Spanish academy. However, it was this crisis that pushed me to do what I had always wanted to do, and so I took a plane to Miami to study my first eyelash extensions course. In March 2021, 20 days after taking my first course, I started attending clients, and since then, that hobby became my passion.
It fills me with great satisfaction to see the happy faces of my clients after each service. Every day I attend between 3 to 6 clients, most of them are working women, wives, tired mothers with personal problems and overwhelmed by the day-to-day and I try as much as possible to offer them a space not only of beauty but a time for themselves, to relax, to get out of the routine in a harmonious environment and where they can feel confident.
I believe that the issue of beauty goes far beyond the vanity of women, a simple beauty treatment can raise self-esteem, and I have found that in this way, I can help many women to feel good about themselves.
Currently, I specialize in eyelash and eyebrow extensions, offering each client a personalized design according to their physiognomy, always preserving their essence and naturalness.
In May 2023, I graduated from the Business Academy provided by low country Local First; this course is focused on small local entrepreneurs. This course has encouraged me to expand my business, a project I am currently working on.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been easy; these two years have been trial and error, at first many tears not only because I was starting a business but because we were in the middle of a pandemic, and I had put this venture and my savings as the only option to get ahead.
