Community Highlights: Meet Don Faulk of Unisource Mortgage Services

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Don Faulk.

Don Faulk

Hi Don, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in the metro Savannah area for almost 17 years now. I went to high school at Southeast Bulloch and graduated from college at Georgia Southern with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Out of college, I worked for Target and then for Whole Foods Market in Management. These jobs helped me to establish a strong love for customer service and drove me to be always focused on client experience.

Following that, I worked in sales for Monarch Roofing of Hilton Head, where I was able to fine-tune my sales strategies and learn a ton about person-to-person sales and building a referral network. Following that job, I was hired by Unisource Mortgage Services. Unisource has been serving the Low Country and Coastal Empire since 1997. We are licensed mortgage brokers in GA, SC, FL, and MS. I instantly identified with the family ideals and strong foundations of Unisource. I joined the sales staff at Unisource in the summer of 2021 and have never looked back. Being independent mortgage brokers, we can offer an extremely wide portfolio of products and shop with multiple lenders in order to provide the absolute best rates and service to our clients.

This job was the perfect fit for me as it allows me to use my customer-centric background, sales experience, and the best products available to provide an unparalleled experience to all my clients and their referrals. This is the first job I’ve ever had where I truly love going to work every day!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No career journey is smooth. There are highs and lows in every story. Since graduating college, every job I have had has been full of difficult scenarios and conversations. I learned many valuable lessons from colleagues and experiences along the way. At Target, I had several peers and employees who taught me a lot about patience and servant leadership. In roofing I learned how to critically think when trying to grow a business.

This job has unique obstacles, often coming in the form of difficult life events and conversations with clients. I get very personally invested and will fight for my clients. I often times have to work through failed prior mortgages, difficult tax situations, divorces, bankruptcies , and difficult credit histories. I have to work through difficult interest-rate environments and low housing inventory.

But it is extremely important to surround yourselves with a network of support to survive these situations and learn from them to get better. For me, I am extremely grateful to have a fantastic supportive family, a great work family, a powerful team of driven realtors who support me, and great loan officer peers across the country. I think the most important part of work struggles is to never approach them alone and to always use them as a learning experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are independent mortgage brokers serving GA, SC, FL, and MS. We offer almost all forms of residential mortgages. Conventional, FHA, USDA, VA, DSCR, Bank Statement, and Home lines of Equity.

We are extremely proud of our turn times, extremely high level of personalized service and the amount of life-time return clients we have seen since 1997. We promise you will have un-paralleled service and a personal touch with every file. You never get a robot when you call our office. We offer extremely competitive rates on purchases, refinances, and construction loans.

Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
Helping and educating people. I love making a difference in people’s lives, and helping them get into a home is extremely rewarding.

As far as educating, I want to create a generation of educated homeowners because that will make this process continue to evolve and get better! Educated homeowners take much of the potential stress out of home-buying.
