Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Clarissa Alderman.
Hi Dr. Clarissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career with a simple goal: to make mental health care more accessible, practical, and family-centered. Early on, I worked directly with children, parents, and caregivers and saw how often families were expected to navigate complex systems without enough support or clarity. That experience shaped my clinical focus and pushed me to pursue advanced training so I could work at both the individual and systems level.
Family Insight evolved from that work. I wanted to build a practice that didn’t just treat symptoms, but helped families understand patterns, strengthen relationships, and develop tools they could actually use in daily life. Over time, the practice expanded to serve more communities, integrate evidence-based approaches, and collaborate closely with schools and other providers. Today, Family Insight reflects the same values that motivated me at the beginning—thoughtful care, clinical integrity, and a commitment to meeting families where they are.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth, and it hasn’t been meant to be. Over the past 18 years, Family Insight has faced many of the same challenges that affect the broader mental health field, along with some unique growing pains that come with building a values-driven practice.
One of the biggest challenges has been sustainability—balancing high-quality care with changing insurance requirements, reimbursement rates, and increasing administrative demands. There have also been ongoing workforce challenges, including recruiting, training, and retaining clinicians while protecting them from burnout in a field that asks a great deal emotionally.
Growth itself brought obstacles. Expanding services meant learning how to scale without losing the personal, family-centered approach that defines Family Insight. We’ve had to adapt to shifts in community needs, policy changes, and major disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic, which required rapid adjustments to how care was delivered.
Through it all, the work has required flexibility, resilience, and a willingness to evolve. The challenges were real, but they strengthened the organization, clarified our mission, and reinforced why this work matters.

What sets Family Insight apart is our deep commitment to rural mental health, creativity in treatment, and long-term community impact. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Instead, we focus on practical tools, authentic connection, and helping clients build resilience beyond the therapy room. Brand-wise, we are most proud of being a trusted, consistent presence for families who often have limited access to specialized care. We want readers to know that Family Insight stands for thoughtful, ethical, and heart-centered mental health care—focused not just on symptoms, but on growth, stability, and lasting change.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up in rural South Georgia shaped me in lasting ways. As a brown-skinned girl, I learned early how to navigate spaces where I often stood out. I excelled academically and was deeply involved in athletics, which taught me discipline, confidence, and how to lead under pressure. School was a place where I pushed myself, but it was also where I learned resilience and adaptability.
My parents, both working class, were intentional about exposing me to opportunities beyond our immediate surroundings. They made sacrifices to ensure I had access to extracurricular activities, enrichment experiences, and environments that expanded my worldview. They were clear about expectations and prepared me for a college-prep path, emphasizing education as both opportunity and responsibility. That foundation—hard work, structure, and belief in what was possible—continues to influence how I show up personally and professionally today.
