Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Erika Morrow, OD, MS.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I didn’t go to college right after high school because, frankly, I had no clue what I wanted to do—and I wasn’t about to go into debt finding out. Instead, I jumped into the workforce: first software support, then pharmacy, and eventually, thanks to a friendly nudge from a stranger, I landed at the front desk of an eye clinic. I was 19, and little did I know, I’d just blinked my way into my life’s calling.
Over 10 years at that practice, I went from receptionist to certified ophthalmic technician, eventually becoming the lead tech. My boss, an ophthalmologist, believed in me so much he paid for my undergrad ;on the condition I kept working full-time. So I did what any slightly sleep-deprived dream-chaser would do: crammed 15-19 credits into two days a week, every semester, for four years.
In 2012, I got into optometry school (and a Master’s program, because apparently I like a challenge). I graduated with high honors in 2016. We moved back to Colorado and after a short detour we ended up relocating to Savannah for Brian’s job. I was practicing in Statesboro but after a short voyage through small-town life in Statesboro, we landed in Savannah. I saw a gap in the market and in career opportunities with all of the corporate optometry office. I realized Savannah needed a boutique private practice with high-quality care and eyewear that wasn’t cookie-cutter. With my husband Brian’s encouragement & support, I opened ForSight in 2019 on MLK Blvd, back when people still raised an eyebrow at the location. Now? It’s buzzing.
We’re about to celebrate 6 years, eight “Best Optometrist” awards, and countless meaningful relationships with patients, nonprofits, and the community. ForSight is everything I dreamed it could be—and I’m just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been a pretty smooth ride—but we definitely hit a few potholes along the way. Like having to move everything out of the office (twice!) because our floors failed and needed replacing. And then there was the time our in-office lab got flooded… with sewage… from the event venue upstairs. That was a glamorous day. Add in months of construction noise as the rest of our building filled in with new businesses, and let’s just say we’ve had our fair share of background chaos.
But honestly, these hiccups just made us stronger—and better at crisis management. At the end of the day, they’re part of what makes our story, and our space, even more special.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
ForSight Unique Eye Care & Eye Wear isn’t your typical eye clinic—it’s a boutique destination for exceptional vision care and eye wear in Savannah’s historic district. I wanted ForSight to be known for our focus on personalized, full-scope eye exams using cutting-edge technology, comprehensive treatment plans, and luxury, handcrafted eyewear that reflects individual style .
What we do / specialize in:
1) Comprehensive Eye Care: We diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions—from myopia control to dry eye—to ensure lasting eye health.
I fit specialty contact lenses for patients that have eye diseases and high, hard-to-fit prescriptions.
2) Fashion-Forward Eyewear Boutique: Our curated selection is both eclectic and timeless, ensuring clients find frames that express their personality and fit their lifestyle
3) Personalized Patient Experience: We’re all about treating people, not just prescriptions. Your time, preferences, and lifestyle are central to everything we do .
What sets us apart:
1) Clinic meets concierge: As a local-owned boutique, we deliver white-glove service that corporate practices can’t match.
2) High-end eyewear in a historic charm setting: We’re uniquely located on MLK Blvd in the heart of a revitalizing historic area—creating a compelling mix of style, comfort, and vibrancy.
3) Expert credentials + community heart: Dr. Morrow’s dual degree (O.D. + M.S. in Vision Science), high honors, and deep Savannah roots bring credibility and care to every patient’s experience. We have over 780 five-star reviews with patients raving about our services and products.
Our brand pride:
I’m most proud of building a space that merges clinical excellence + curated style + community connection. ForSight has become more than a clinic—it’s a gathering place where patients become friends, and we’ve supported local nonprofits with tens of thousands of dollars in fundraising, and eye care outreach where we provide free eye care & eye wear for residents of Parks Place.
What I want Voyage Savannah readers to know:
We’re not just eye doctors—we’re your neighbors, invested in Savannah’s vision, literally and metaphorically.
Whether you’re looking for the most thorough exam, designer frames styled to you personally, or guidance on keeping your eyes healthy for life—we’ve got your back.
We believe eyewear should be celebrated, not just worn—and eye care should be memorable, not rushed.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My best advice? Start showing up before you start selling. I joined the local chamber and business networking groups well before I opened ForSight, and it was a game-changer. By the time I was ready to open the doors, I already knew who to call for insurance, IT help, contractors, moving trucks, logo pens, and even flooring (which we replaced twice, so—good contact to have). Building those relationships early made it so much easier to spend money with people I trusted.
Also—be ready to pivot. A lot. I’d say being a business owner is 30% strategy and 70% gracefully reacting to curveballs. Sometimes in heels.
And finally, find great team members, pay them well, and treat them like gold. That doesn’t always mean grand gestures—small things go a long way. Celebrate their wins, bring in surprise snacks, and give them schedules that allow for a little breathing room. A happy team makes a thriving business.
Probably the most important advice I can give is this: If you’re a small business, you have to support other small businesses—every chance you get. That means everything from your morning coffee to your skincare, home décor, desserts, jewelry, clothing, your marketing materials, and even your eye care & eye wear.
Get to know what your clients do for a living and go out of your way to support their businesses. When you choose local over corporate—even if it costs a little more—you’re investing in relationships, community, and long-term loyalty. Trust me, that kind of support comes full circle.
Locals supporting locals isn’t just a feel-good motto—it’s a growth strategy. And it’s one of the best things you can do to build a brand that actually means something.
