Today we’d like to introduce you to Khadijah Bryant.
Hi Khadijah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I wanted to either be a neurosurgeon or a veterinarian. The older I became I realized I didn’t really like animals and I did not want to work on brains, so I decided becoming a nurse would better suit me. While pursuing my dream to become a nurse, I started doing hair, but I didn’t really take it serious until my freshman year of college. I was taking classes at Armstrong while doing hair on the side so that I wouldn’t be the typical broke college student. At first, it was just a hobby, but then I started to really love it, so I dropped out and went to hair school. While there I learned everything there is to know about hair, skincare and so much more. I graduated April of 2021 and have been doing hair full-time ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey has definitely not been a smooth road, but following your dreams never is. My main struggle was trying to raise a child while going to school full time 9 hours a day, 5 days sometimes 6 days a week. Although it was hard and stressful, I do not regret going through it, but neither will I ever do it again. The other struggle was building clientele that would trust me with their crown. It took a while, but it was also worth it because along the way I have met so many amazing men and women from all walks of life.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The First Class Experience is a piggyback off of a business my sister, and I started, First Class Guru. I specialize in natural hair, braids, and extensions while my sister provides the extensions for our clients. What sets me apart is the fact that I am not trying to be like anyone else. I am most proud of the fact that First Class Guru is a family-oriented brand, and we treat our customers/clients as such. I would like the readers to know that my brand took a lot of time and effort to become the business it is today. I say all of that to say it is easy to give up on your dreams but harder to believe that you can accomplish them and actually do it. So why not bet on yourself?
What are your plans for the future?
In the near future, I plan to open up a beauty salon and eventually a beauty school of my own one day, but until then I look forward to becoming a better beautician along the way.
