Community Highlights: Meet Steven Dickson of The Healing Lounge at Get Tanked

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Dickson.

Hi Steven, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From late 2018 through mid-2019, myself along with fellow service members deployed overseas, experienced constant exposure to stressors such as combat operations, heavy artillery, and long missions. The impact of these experiences often continues long after returning home anxiety, difficulty relaxing, and lingering stress can make “normal life” feel out of reach.

Like many veterans searching for relief, the discovery of float tanks became a turning point. Floating provided something other coping mechanisms couldn’t: a safe, natural way to reset the body and mind. Within just minutes in the tank, many find a level of calm and clarity that lasts for days beyond each session.

This life changing experience inspired the creation of Get Tanked, a float center dedicated to bringing the proven benefits of floating to Hinesville and surrounding communities. Our mission is to provide soldiers, veterans, and civilians alike with a tool to ease stress, improve mental clarity, and support overall well-being.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Initially after deployment, the toughest challenge was adjusting from fast pace dangerous environment back to civilian life. Experiencing anxiety for the first time before returning home then experiencing PTSD once stateside made the adjustment very difficult. It was seemingly impossible to go to the store or do hardly anything with the constant fear of the worst possible scenario happening. People’s quick movement, loud sounds, or any sort of stimulation would trigger reactions and shut downs internally. Going from feeling confident, to feeling vulnerable all the time made me feel very weak as a young combat veteran. One of the worst challenges & wake up calls happened 6 months after returning home. A small house party between close friends that loved joke around…. one friend set off a fire cracker in the living room….I was in the next room…..It triggered a black out…. I came back to standing over my friend screaming while he looked truly scared. To lose control like that made me feel like I was a danger and no longer needed to be around. That was truly one of the very worst nights of my life. I decided after that night I was going to find something that helped or I would be dead.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Healing Lounge (Originally Get Tanked Float Center) Is a Family owned/Operated business is a place to enter into an environment of low stimulation that is designed to allow people to process, let go, and relax. The Float Room is a large enclosed bath tub, with 10″ of water & 1500lbs of Epsom Salt. This low sensory environment allows the body & mind to enter a relaxed and healing state. We also have an infrared sauna which is great for detoxing and opening pores before floating. The combination of the sauna, floating and Neuromuscular massage is the perfect compliment to get some direct body work while the body is in such a relaxed state. Additionally we have an in-house chiropractor Dr. Daniel Cooke, Dr. Cooke has been a Chiropractor in Hinesville for 30 years.
The Float tank makes us stand out, as it is a unique experience. Many seek us to relieve stress & or pain management. Majority of people will leave feeling relaxed, a select few walk out reconnected with themselves in a way they haven’t felt in a long time. The Customers that are truly touched and affected in such an emotional and positive way are the one’s that fill our hearts and keep us doing what we do.
I would say I am most proud of our ability to receive customers in an array of vulnerable states that walk out feeling comfortable and part of our float family after finding the Healing they were seeking.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I am Hopeful that our industry continues to grow and thrive. As our world is only growing in constant stimulation, I believe people will seek ways to relieve and decompress on a more routine basis rather than just twice a year on vacations. As our industry adapts and changes so will we. We started with just a float tank now we have adapted to fit the needs of our floater’s.
The wellness self-care industry has jumped in the last 5 years to a 6 billion dollar industry. When we opened Get Tanked, there were 18 float centers in Georgia. Now there are over 30. Combining modalities has helped propel us forward.
