Conversations with Allanah Dobson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allanah Dobson

Hi Allanah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a native of Hampton, SC. I went to college at Coastal Carolina University where I received a B.S. in Health Promotion in 2006. I ventured off to Oklahoma City, OK to pursue my Master’s in Public Health from The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, finishing in 2009.

I wrote my first manuscript for my first and most popular book, Hell Naw! after being rejected for several jobs. Unemployment forced me to move back to my hometown in SC; something I never wanted to do in 2012. My first book, Hell Naw!, was published in 2014.

I am currently the author of 6 books and working on #7!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely NOT! My mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer in 2014 and died in 2015.

I had to put my goals and dreams on hold to take care of her. I don’t regret it because I did what I was supposed to.

She was able to attend my 1st book signing for my birthday in 2014.

Afterwards, I went through two more dark years of trying to find a job and paying bills before I found my footing.

So, nothing was easy. But, I’ve always been tougher than what life has thrown at me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an author of 6 books. I’m known as the author, Allanah D. All of my books can be found on Amazon.

I am most proud of being myself and people/my fans loving me for who I am.

What sets me a part from others is I’m bold, fun and always myself no matter who I’m around or where I am.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see my industry opening up and allowing more creative voices to be highlighted and seen.

I’m hoping they will see how awesome I am and make me a best selling author! I could be biased, but my work is pretty good.
