Conversations with Alyssa Pietraniello

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Pietraniello.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Two sisters with a passion for fashion had the idea during the global pandemic which hit in March 2020. In June 2020, our idea came to life and has been successful ever since. We started out by making customized apparel, masks, etc. for all ages and sizes. Once we started to gain a following, we decided to expand to Etsy where we listed our best sellers. After accumulating 700+ sales on Etsy alone we decided to set up our own website. By creating our own site, it allowed our following to have a more direct purchasing experience. We are considering expanding to other platforms in the future!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When starting a small business, it’s not always going to be an overnight success. When we first started out, we just had an Instagram page and we’re selling stuff locally to family and friends. Once we started getting our name out there it made it easier to expand our demographic. When having a social media driven business, there are hit or miss days. Some days we would get no orders and other days we can get 20.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a senior at Iona College in NY. I will be graduating in Spring 2022 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. I think what sets me apart from others is how I was able to start my own business while balancing out being a full time student.

What’s next?
My plans for the future are to get a full time marketing position job. Being located in the city would be ideal. I still plan on keeping AEPCUSTOMZ as a side hustle.
