Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastacia Diaz.
Hi Anastacia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Thought the height of the pandemic, I needed a way to make money and save for my future college endeavors, so I decided that using my sewing skills, I could make fun and environmentally friendly masks that are reusable and came in different designs and colors! I began using YouTube to draft different-sized patterns for all different-sized heads. Soon later, I started selling just to close friends and family, but as the word began to get out, I was creating masks for people all around my town. I also began partnering with a church in the area and used these masks as a fundraiser for a food pantry. As the mask demand began to die down and school came around business had slowed down, and I focused on my studies, lessening my business load to a few masks a week, and started up on creating custom shirts as well here and there for group events and businesses. Although these were good ways of making side money though they began getting repetitive almost boring to me. I love to challenge myself and constantly learn new things, so being completely hands-on is something that brings me lots of joy. With that being said, crocheting was a great way to keep my mind challenged and always creating! I began just by learning the basics from YouTube tutorials then I began to combine these skills to create different pieces. I’ve created lots of different accessories and clothing pieces, but there is still so much more for me to learn from this amazing world of crocheting. I can’t wait to see where this will take me and how these skills I’ve learned now will transfer into my future works!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Motivation and staying on task is always a huge struggle for me. I have a bad habit of biting of way more than I can chew, which gave me a point in time where I would come up with tons and tons of projects to create that I either wasn’t financially able to achieve at that point in time or just did not have the time to create in the first place. My other bad habit was just starting projects and never finishing them which just left me with a bunch of half-done ideas sitting in my basement collecting dust. But once I began to step back and observe my situation, I learned how to manage my time better and also how I needed to motivate myself to finish projects. My largest struggle I feel I have in the moment though that still hasn’t been solved yet is trying to promote my products to my target audience. This is something I am still working to achieve, so I am trying to learn how I can better my marketing skills on media so it reaches my target audience.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a fashion designer currently specializing in crocheting and knitwear pieces. I’m most proud of my most recent hats I’ve created with mesh top and ruffled rim. I feel I’m different from others because of my openness to experiment with different mediums swell as aesthetics instead of staying stagnant is a specific niche.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m still in my early stages of my business, so it’s continuously changing and rebranding as my interests change, and I find what I love best.
