Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Roe.
Hi Angela , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Angela Roe is a visionary artist with origins that can only be described as modest and humble. All throughout her upbringing, fashion played a large role and motivated her to seek inspiration and to pursue creative endeavors in some of the most dynamic cities in the country. Living in Chicago, LA, and New York has dramatically influenced her artistic approach and her pursuit of creative projects.
Angela gained valuable experience and acquired immense appreciation for design and aesthetic principles through her work in the fashion, beauty, and interior design industries that continue to reveal themselves in her present day work.
Through these challenging and enriching experiences, Angela has refined a unique set of skills.. She manages to fuse what is most universal and most personal into artful representations that are rich with whimsy and imbued with deep personal resonance.
Angela is constantly inspired to experiment with new forms, materials, techniques, and mediums. Primarily working with oils, gold leafing, and repurposed fitments, Angela’s portfolio is a highly stylized and variegated statement of artistic significance. She creates with the intent to promote visceral and emotional reactions when viewed. “I want people to feel what I felt in the moment of its creation.”
Angela is a mother of two children and currently resides in Rincon, Georgia, just outside of Savannah. Her works can be viewed at several galleries along the coast. She still shows every year at the biggest art market in Savannah, SLAM. (this years date May 10th 2025.)
In addition to her artistic pursuits, she has successfully administrated several high profile multi-million dollar enterprises for the last 15 years. She is currently dedicated full-time to her artistic ventures and enjoys mentoring other artists.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up in a very rural area, there was a limited amount of resources and support for my art. With my passion for fashion and creativity I had a hard time making friends at first.
When a teacher at school notice my artistic skills, something changed. I felt like I had a purpose and a way out of a place I didn’t feel I belonged.
Getting to Chicago, and into the Art Institute required a lot of sacrifice for me and my family.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Most people would describe me as a landscape artist, with an impressionistic style.
However I focus more on sky-scapes, with a hint of surrealism.
The cloud forms and shapes come from my dreams and meditations, not always from nature.
Growing up my home would have been described as violent. I spent a lot of time outside being surrounded by nature, and daydreaming about being somewhere far away.
Somewhere safe, I want to create that space for others.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think the best thing you can do is show your work. Share it with everyone! Feedback good or bad, will help you build on your skills.
Join local associations find the ones that work best for you. I found many mentors by joining associations. They usually require quite a bit of work and cost money. So it’s important to do your research meet a few members.
You find the right association with the right members the community and knowledge is priceless.
In Savannah I highly recommend, the FAAA through Telfair, Jepson center.
