Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernard DeVoe Jr.
Hi Bernard, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Savannah, GA, Owner/Graphic Designer of Belaire Billionaire Clothing. Started designing my fashion line during my second year in college in 2016, where I had a specific project on branding myself. I was either going to do custom artwork, photography, or design a t-shirt. I decided to invest in a vinyl cutter and started using custom designs to press onto t-shirts. Once seeing how the shirts unfolded, the desire to create my own fashion line came to light. I began to invest in different machinery to make this thought come true.
Started thinking of various names and came up with “Belaire Billionaire”. The name came from my childhood neighborhood growing up on Bel Aire Drive in the Cloverdale neighborhood. The billionaire was added later on to give more insight into what the brand’s mantra was about. -Belaire Billionaire
Originated in down south Savannah, GA, Belaire Billionaire is a trendsetting Clothing line, offering first-rate products and exceptional customer service to shoppers from the comfort of their own homes and up close and personal. We’re a business made up of innovators and forward-thinkers, with the drive and wherewithal to constantly update and improve the online shopping experience.
We thrive to push and elevate goals through each and every individual product that is offered. We don’t only want you to look good but also to feel good mentally and physically!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy road, but after a year and a half began to smooth itself out after a while. Being that I do everything pretty much in-house from designing the logos and artwork to cutting and sewing.
Learning new programs and how to use the sewing machine became pretty tough. Doing my own marketing, focusing on who my selective audience could be, and finding creative ways to be different.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In 2017, I decided to move to Charlotte, North Carolina to spread my wings and find more inspiration. 2018 came and In the midst of graduating college with a Bachelor in Graphic Design, I landed a career job with the Charlotte Hornets working with their online App and Creative team.
While working I would find so much inspiration around me that drove me to really put more into my fashion line. Within a year’s time, I was able to connect with other entrepreneurs and help with logos, t-shirts, and just business ideas. Right then and there I knew, I specialized in having a strong sight for detail and could pick up on the smallest thing and find worth within it.
I’m proud of sticking things out even when it became tough and wasn’t seeing any sales at one point. I personally feel that’s what drives me and sets me apart from others. I’m always willing to learn, receive/give advice, and turn bad criticism into a positive vibe to help with my future work.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice would never be afraid to ask questions or pick someone’s mind, you never know what the next person may know. Networking can be a beautiful thing. I feel everyone can be creative in their own particular way, whether young or old.
We all can learn something from each other. Keeping an open mind and knowing there’s still so much more for me to venture out and learn not only in this business but in this world.
So, I never feel I’m too good to learn or receive negative or positive insight from others’ points of view. That’s what keeps me going and has been working very well.
