Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Chavers.
Hi Daisy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi there,
I’ve always created in some form or another. I lost my hairdressing career when I tore my rotator cuff in two places. My husband and daughter tattoo and they soon had me in the shop helping run things and inspired me to start drawing again. One thing led to another, and here I am tattooing too! I love that tattooing pushes my creativity and challenges me every day. I also love that I still get to have a close relationship with clients similar to when I was doing hair. I particularly love tattooing flowers, plants, and small creatures. We have a shop in Asheville, North Carolina but really got tired of the winters. Savannah grabbed our interest and stole our hearts. So, we’ve opened a shop in Savannah! I’m so excited to be here and look forward to new friendships.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ending my hair career challenged my sense of identity. When you pour all of yourself into something and then lose it, it can be really hard to see that it’s not all you are. Tattooing is hard! Not just any artworks on skin and taking your ideas and technique and adapting it to fit the medium is quite the challenge. It takes years to finally feel like you are actually starting to master it so there is no room for impatience. I am an empath, and hurting people in the process of creating has been something that I have had to learn to manage. That being said, it’s the hardest things that are worth doing the most!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to tattoo flowers, plants, bugs, birds… I’m most proud that I’ve been able to conquer my trepidation with hurting folks in the process of what I do. As an empath, I feel everyone’s fear, stress, and pain, and that can be very distracting. It makes me so much more aware of someone’s needs during the process and motivates me to provide the most calming experience possible. My ability to listen and nurture my clients is what I feel sets me apart from many.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You cannot skip any steps on the journey. If you aren’t constantly learning and improving, chances are you will never get where you want to be. A professional is someone who does something until they can’t possibly get it wrong, not someone who finally gets it right.
