Conversations with Jennifer Christy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Christy.

Hi Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a dentist and mother of two, I have always been passionate about oral health. I wrote Willow By Your Pillow, The True Story of the Tooth Fairy and Her Fairy Messengers to motivate my own children, Jessica Elizabeth and James Michael, to brush their teeth and make healthy food choices. The outcome was so successful I decided to share my new family tradition with the world so everyone could form healthy dental habits while having fun!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest obstacle was not writing the story; it was navigating the entire process of self publishing the book, creating a plush to match the unique characters, and then start selling the product. I had to learn countless details along the way, such as getting the plush materials tested and applying for registration numbers to sell in multiple states. Additionally, I needed to design the packaging, manage shipping logistics, develop a website/ marketing strategy among many other things. It was a challenge but a very rewarding experience to see my vison come to life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 2012. Since graduation, I have been practicing as a general dentist and living in Savannah, Georgia. I met my husband in 2006, Dr. Jonathan Michael Christy, MD. We are blessed with two beautiful children, Jessica Elizabeth and James Michael, who inspired my book. As a general dentist, I find immense joy in blending my artistic skills with the science of dentistry to enhance my patient’s smiles and overall dental health. I created Willow By Your Pillow for my children initially as a way to educate, motivate, and to make magical Tooth Fairy memories!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
A mentor would have been fantastic but I did not know where to find one. I was determined to accomplish building my brand on my own and I tackled one step at a time, researching online and making phone calls.
