Conversations with Natalya Chernorizov

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalya Chernorizov.

Hi Natalya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Sweet World Bakery was born from a shared belief that cakes are more than desserts — they are part of life’s most meaningful moments. Around the world, celebrating birthdays and special occasions with cake is a family tradition, and we wanted to honor that feeling of warmth, togetherness, and joy.

Our bakery is built by a team of people with different talents and the same passion. Nataliya has loved cooking and baking her entire life and has more than 15 years of professional experience. Victor brings over 24 years of expertise in the restaurant and food industry, with formal education as a food technologist and chef. I combine a deep passion for baking with a love for art and creativity, which allows me to see cakes not only as food, but as edible works of art.

Together, we decided to combine our skills, experience, and passion to create something truly special — cakes that are beautiful, delicious, and made with care. In April 2023, we took a big step forward and officially purchased Sweet World Bakery, turning our shared dream into a real business.

What makes Sweet World Bakery special is our dedication to custom designs, European-style baking, handmade-from-scratch recipes, and high-quality ingredients. We focus on building real relationships with our customers and being part of their celebrations — from birthdays and weddings to family gatherings and community events.

Our mission is simple: to create cakes that feel like home. Every customer is special to us, and we strive to offer the best-quality cakes in Spokane, made with good ingredients, honest pricing, and genuine care. One of our ongoing challenges is maintaining high quality while keeping our prices fair, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Today, Sweet World Bakery is a growing brand with a loyal customer base, and we are excited about the future — continuing to grow, welcoming new customers, and building a strong community around sweetness, creativity, and joy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any business, the journey has not been completely smooth. Along the way, we’ve experienced both great days and more challenging ones. One of our biggest priorities has always been quality, and that means using good, reliable ingredients — which also means we are often dependent on availability and market conditions.

For example, last year we were affected by the significant increase in egg prices caused by shortages and instability in the egg market. Situations like this directly impact bakeries, where ingredients are the foundation of everything we do. We also experience natural seasonality, with busier periods around holidays and celebrations and quieter times during other parts of the year, which is a normal but important part of this industry.

Despite these challenges, we’ve learned how to adapt, plan carefully, and stay flexible while never compromising on quality. These experiences have made us more thoughtful, resilient, and committed to running Sweet World Bakery in a responsible and sustainable way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Sweet World Bakery, we specialize in custom, European-style cakes and desserts made completely from scratch using high-quality ingredients. We create cakes for all kinds of occasions — birthdays, weddings, family celebrations, and community events — and each order is treated as something personal and meaningful.

We are especially known for our custom designs that combine artistic detail with great taste. For us, a cake should look beautiful and taste just as good, which is why we focus on balanced flavors, fresh ingredients, and handmade processes rather than shortcuts or mass production. Many of our customers tell us they love our desserts not only for how they look, but because they are not overly sweet — something that often sets us apart from other bakeries.

What we are most proud of is the trust our customers place in us. Many of our clients return again and again and recommend us to their friends and families, which tells us we are doing something right. Building long-term relationships and being part of our customers’ important moments means everything to us.

What truly sets Sweet World Bakery apart is our team. We bring together professional baking experience, deep knowledge of the food industry, and a strong artistic vision. This allows us to offer consistent quality, thoughtful design, and a warm, personal approach. Every cake is made with care, attention, and respect for the occasion it represents — and that personal touch is something our customers feel.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
For us, mentorship and business connections have come from a combination of learning from others and learning by doing. Earlier in our professional careers, we gained valuable experience from peers in the industry, and we continue to draw on that shared knowledge today.

Since we purchased an existing business, we also benefited from the foundation that was already in place. Rather than starting from zero, we focused on understanding what was working well, respecting that base, and then gradually improving and refining it over time.

Our biggest tip is to stay open, ask questions, and build genuine relationships. Many of the most helpful mentors are people you meet naturally through work – other business owners, suppliers, or industry professionals. Listening carefully, being willing to learn from both successes and mistakes, and applying those lessons consistently has worked best for us.
