Conversations with Rashid Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashid Williams.

Hi Rashid, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I found my love for music at the age of 8 through battle rap watching Cassidy Vs Freeway. By the age of 10 I started listening to Eminem and Fabulous. By 13 I was writing my own music, my first song was a letter to my mom. By 15 I was in a music group with a couple classmates called “New Breed Goons”. By 16 a teacher at my school saw our potential with a couple other peers from our school and signed us to his label. By this time the group was now a party of 6 and was now know as “FastLane” but that didn’t last too long. After a year the group split up from 6 members to 3 . The last 3 of us decided to continue with our passion for music and we became “Cloud 9 tha gang”. “Cloud 9 tha Gang” lasted through high school before I decided to become a solo artist around 18 or 19 years old. At the age of 21 I received my first publishing deal. However after my publishing deal things started to go downhill. My music career wasn’t doing anything but that never stopped me. It was my drive to continue to make music, to continue to show my genius, and to find a way to provide for those I love. So I stayed in the studio making music, performing at showcases around Atlanta, networking at events, building a fan base, and trying to find my opportunity. Years past and I continue to push and grind for my music career. Then one day I get a call from an old classmate that said he’s been watching what I’m doing and wanted to introduce me to his music manager. After meeting the manager and telling him my goals and aspirations with music. He saw the vision too and within 30 days not only did I have a legitimate Music Manager but I was also signing a music distribution deal to Universal Music Group and Virgin Music Group. Ever since then it has been endless opportunities such as performing and hosting Orange Crush Festival 2025, my first paid concert May 17th, Hosting and performing at celebrity pool parties, going to exclusive celebrity events, movie screenings, acting opportunities, and so much more.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No it hasn’t been a smooth road. It has been an up hill and down hill battle. Having a team that didn’t have the same drive as I did, losing my own drive at times, hunting for opportunities, constantly hearing broken promises, wasting money, grieving family loss, and feeling like I had no support from those closest to me, were all struggles I went through and at times still go through. Music is just like life. When it rains it pours but when the sun decides to shine there are no clouds in my way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist I’m Mr. Who They Need also know as TheyNeedSheed but you can call me Sheed. I specialize in story telling, word play, and lyricism. I’m known for my delivery and unmatched energy as soon as I hit the stage. I am this generations Lil Wayne, I can switch up my style from R&B to Pop to whatever the people may need. I take pride in my music. Music is how I show my genius, I wasn’t the best in school and I wasn’t the good kid, but when it comes to music I was made for this. I make sure that my music is catchy, relevant, relatable, and has a meaning. I am what music needs.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t feel luck, good or bad, has anything to do with what has happened in my life personally or business wise. I have worked hard for everything that I have accomplished and that is All Praise to Allah not luck.
