Conversations with Rebecca & Jamie Gawley & Pleta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca & Jamie Gawley & Pleta.

Hi Rebecca & Jamie , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Finches began in 2020, when a neighborhood bike ride turned into launching the business of our dreams.

The 1950’s mechanics shop and gas station we now occupy, sat empty. But its charm and potential caught our eye.

Pandemics don’t usually come to mind in “perfect timing” situations, but the restaurant industry was changing and a small outdoor venue, plus a little too much spare time, turned out to be just the spot we needed.

We threw together a business plan and a menu, and set our hopes on Thunderbolt.

The neighborhood quickly welcomed us and so began our story as a local hot spot!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Navigating things beyond our control that affect daily business. Hurricanes, snow storms, cost increases- we’ve had plenty of experience of working through challenges- we are a pandemic business, after all. But the folks who remember to support small businesses during trying times are the real superstars.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Finches, while known for sandwiches, has become a hub for our community. Hosting fundraisers, pop up markets, parties and events is what makes the Finches experience unique.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Finches has a rich history of collaboration. Much of what makes showing up every day so meaningful are the connections we make. So much of our creativity is sparked by saying yes to an idea. When we are approached by a chef, or bartender, a painter or musician, anyone who wants to be a part of what we’re doing, the answer is always yes.
