Conversations with Sienna Mosley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sienna Mosley

Hi Sienna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I fell in love with the game of volleyball 3 summers ago after a visit to my grandma’s in Atlanta for the summer. My cousins who are a year older than me were already playing school and club volleyball. Watching them play made me want to play also. When I came back to Savannah to start my 7th grade year I was motivated to try out for my middle school team. To get myself prepared I started taking clinics to learn the fundamentals of the game at Club Savannah Volleyball Club. They helped me gain the skills I needed to make my middle school team. That same year I started playing club volleyball as at Club Savannah. I made the local team, I was so excited to start my volleyball journey and I had a blast playing with my team. Over the summer before my 8th grade school year I got a chance to play in the AAU Volleyball National Championship in Orlando Florida and improve my skill set with additional training in Atlanta. That whole summer my cousins and I went to so many clinics and took private lessons. My skill set had improved tremendously over that summer. Entering the next school year I made my 8th grade volleyball team and was named captain of my team. Club season came around and I made the top regional team that year improving from the year before. I learned so much from that experience playing with that group of girls. I’m in 9th grade now and I made varsity as a freshman for not only volleyball but also girls flag football At Woodville- Tompkins High School. Flag football is becoming a new passion of mine along with volleyball. Playing sports for your school is so much fun. It’s nothing like playing for your school it’s really an honor. Those girls accepted me with open arms and we shared so many fond memories this school year, they really made the transition into high school so much better. This club season I was able to make the top national team for my age group. I’m currently in club season now and my team has won gold and silver in two different tournaments thus far. From the bottom team to the top team in 3 years of starting volleyball has made me very proud and makes me want to work even harder on both my sports to improve and become an even better player.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced was starting a sport late in life. At times I doubted myself because I didn’t think I was good enough or wouldn’t achieve my goals I set for myself. My parents always told me anything worth having is worth fighting for. So I knew it wouldn’t be easy but it will be worth it. So I work really hard not only on the court or on the field but outside those areas too with strength and conditioning with weights, Vertimax and watching game film. I’m also an athletic who has asthma. Getting a handle of the things that can trigger an asthma attack these past few years has been such a blessing to me. I haven’t had an asthma attack in over 2 years now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m mostly known for being a mini social media influencer specializing in athletics, working out and fashion. My proudest moments were being on NBC Nightly News Kids Edition with Lester Holt at 10 years old in August of 2020. On that segment I was given the opportunity to ask a question to NBC News anchor Lester Holt and Dr. John Torres. My question was, “how safe would it be to go back to school for kids who suffer with asthma during Covid 19?” I’m also proud to be a former brand ambassador for the company Justice and their Walmart rollout alongside my little sister Sage. We have worked alongside a few other companies together in the last 5 years together.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My high school is very unique. It’s a technical and career school. Students who go to Woodville-Tompkins also are able to obtain a trade or take college courses while also in school. My career path is nursing. In college I want to major in biology or chemistry and eventually become a dermatologist after graduating medical school.
